Since the beginning of the Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter campaign, Keiji Inafune and his team of developers at Comcept and Inti Creates have promised fans and supporters that they would be playing a role in the development process of the upcoming unofficial Mega Man successor. Now, after a second round of voting that lasted several weeks, the company has come through by announcing the winner of the Call design contest voted on by supporters of the game’s crowd-funding campaign. For those not familiar with the character, Call is the female android counterpart to Beck aka the titular Mighty No. 9 and could be thought upon as the Roll to Beck’s Rock.
In short, she is a major character in the upcoming game and indeed will be fully playable in both single-player and a special online co-op mode. Gamers helped determine which of a series of proposed designs will go forward as the character’s official design. Back in October an initial vote narrowed the potential selections down to three with a second vote for those backed Mighty No. 9 having started a few weeks back on December 19. The results of that vote are here and the official design for Call will be… *drum roll*
As it turns out, the vote ended up being a fairly close one, with Call E getting 41.14% of the vote to Call F’s 43.39% (leaving Call H as a distant third with a mere 15.47% of the vote), but ultimately Call F prevailed. Personally, I am very pleased by the outcome of this vote since Call F was my pick as well, but I offer sincere condolences to those who supported the other designs.
Mighty No. 9 is currently planned for a Spring 2015 release on PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Mac, Linux, 3DS, and PS Vita–basically, all the systems.
