While many of us are recovering from the holidays with only annoying hangovers from our festive time off, UK developer Hello Games has a lot more to recover from.
On Christmas Eve, Hello Games studio suffered a flood that destroyed tons of equipment in their home offices. From computers to motherboards, the office was essentially totaled by the damage, leaving the small studio to pick up the pieces afterwards.
To add insult to injury, Hello Games is apparently uninsured for flood damage. A tweet by the company stated, “BAD NEWS! Had a ‘hilarious’ call with insurer yesterday. Small print is if you are in a flood risk zone, you are not insured for flooding ” This leaves the company even worse off than they could have been. Thankfully, Hello Games is being cheerful about the whole situation, again tweeting, “On a brighter note, no insurance means we can just wade in and start setting things straight! Hello Games assemble!”
Hello Games is the studio responsible for the popular Joe Danger series, but is probably now more well known for No Man’s Sky, whose debut trailer was revealed earlier this month during the VGX awards. No Mans Sky pretty much stole the show with its quick presentation. Hello Games promised a big, open sci-fi world that allows you to travel to hundreds of planets in a spaceship.
Support from fans all over the world are pouring in for Hello Games. If nothing else, that will help them get through this difficult time. Currently, it is unknown to what extant the damage did to No Man’s Sky or other upcoming projects from the company.
