I am not nearly drunk enough to be dealing with this story, but I will give it a shot anyways. As part of Namco Bandai’s continuing attempt to drown out all competition at TGS 2013 by sheer volume alone, the company has announced another new title. This time they are returning to the world of one of the hottest properties around (at least outside the US) One Piece with One Piece: Dance Battle. Yes, you read that correctly. Dance. Battle.
At the title implies, OPDB will be a rhythm game in which players will have to tap along with the music in order to get their chosen Straw Hat to dance. Why do they need to dance? Oh silly dilly, you are probably putting way more thought into that question from a plot justification perspective than Namco Bandai is. They are dancing to make the company money of course. Lots and lots of money. Check out the game’s trailer below.
Sometimes you have to wonder how Tecmo Koei has failed to snag Post-Time Skip Nami as a guest character for Dead or Alive. She would just fit in so well with that franchise and they have been helping develop the Pirate Warriors series after all. *sighs* Also, I miss early Nami when her personality and not her breasts where her most prominent feature. Oh well.
Anyways, so far Luffy, Chopper, and Nami are the only confirmed playable characters, but I am assuming that Franky and Brook at least will show up as well. After all, leaving them out of a game like this would frankly be criminal, no bones about it. To be fair, there is at least some history of the One Piece franchise being involved in dance-based lunacy and it is a video of that very thing that I will leave you with below.
One Piece: Dance Battle will be coming to smartphones in Japan this winter. A Western release has not been announced and remains unlikely at best anyways, but for once I am strangely OK with that.
