UPDATE: The Kickstarter campaign for Project Phoenix began this morning. It hit the $100,000 funding goal in less than 9 hours. You can still aid the crowdfunding effort right here over the next month for additional stretch goals.
ORIGINAL STORY: A teaser website for something called Project Phoenix hit the internet a few days back. Described as “Japan’s indie RPG feat. AAA talent,” the project remains somewhat mysterious. However, Gematsu is reporting a number of interesting details ahead of the official reveal.
Developed by Creative Intelligence Arts, the game is a “real-time strategy game hybrid” currently being designed by a team with plenty of big releases to their names. Both eastern and western devs are on board, with credits that include Final Fantasy, Halo 4, Crysis 3, L.A. Noire, World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, Diablo III, and Soulcalibur V, among others. The biggest confirmed name is probably Mistwalker composer Nobuo Uematsu, who also recently launched a book.
The title will go to Kickstarter next week with a goal of $100,000. Until then, mull over this plot summary: “The game follows the story of Ruffles, an amnesiac angel, who encounters a Templar named Marcus Stern after landing in the world of Azuregard. Together with Princess Sylrianah, a reserved woman curious to see the world beyond the forest, and Zarum the Lost, a battlemage with his own internal conflicts, the group must discover their place in a world brought to war by misunderstanding and ignorance, and ‘perhaps ultimately even save it from itself’.”
Project Phoenix should arrive in 2015 for PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android.
