The Last of Us is still selling like hotcakes overseas, but one aspect of the game sorely missing is the ability to blow off someones head with a shotgun–in the European version, at least.
Naughty Dog confirmed that the game had its excessive blood and gore toned down for PAL releases, which removed dismemberment, large amounts of blood splatter, and exploding heads from the repertoire of animations seen in the title. These discrepancies were noted for multiplayer matches, and not for the primary story.
The changes were first pointed out by a concerned user who noted the changes to the violence in the European versions of The Last of Us on their community message boards, which prompted an emailed response.
Truth be told, the excessive use of violence and graphic depictions of gore in The Last of Us is almost borderline comical. What little of the game I played is a testament to how the brutality of The Last of Us is almost distracting to the drama happening around you, but that is a discussion for another day.
Still, if you are planning to import the title, keep in mind the North American version is the only confirmed uncensored title at this time.
