Speaking to MVC about the future of the Resident Evil series, former Capcom marketing boss Michael Pattison seemingly confirmed that a new main entry is in the works. “The Last of Us shows a good direction of what the consumers want,” he said. “Tomb Raider as well, we spoke to R&D and they looked at that and they enjoyed that experience.”
These comments are the coda to a longer discussion about the failures of Resident Evil 6 and a desire to focus the franchise. Pattison concedes that, “we probably put too much content in there, there were comments from consumers that said it felt bloated… You’ll find where we go next will likely be more targeted at our core fanbase.” How much inspiration the team will take from Naughty Dog and Crystal Dynamics is unknown, but there are certainly worse properties to emulate.
