When it was confirmed that characters would be able to once again select from a variety of races for their playable character in the upcoming Dragon Age: Inquisition the first question from many a lip was: what about the Qunari? For those not familiar with them, the Qunari (rougly translated it mean people of the Qun) are an original race created by BioWare for the Dragon Age series. As a race they are large, grey, and both males and females have horns even when culturally they share some resemblance to the Seljuk Turks and the Ottoman Empire in their adherence to their religion (the Qun) and have little patience for non-believers. In short they are memorable creation on the part of BioWare and played an equally memorable role in Dragon Age II. And now they will indeed be a selectable playable race in Inquisition.
Technically of course any member of any being who converts to Qun is considered a Qunari but in this case the actual race is what we are talking about. The news came courtesy of BioWare today who also confirmed that both male and female options will be included for players who want to feel a little horny (I regret nothing). It will be interesting to see how BioWare incorporates playing as a Qunari into the larger game as I can see all sorts of possibilities. The Qunari have some very interesting traits and social aspects that could make life more difficult for players in all the right ways.
BioWare did something similar with Elves and Dwarves in Origins after all and indeed it was one of the reasons that the option to select a different race in Dragon Age II was so missed. So consider my anticipation level of the game that much higher and it was already touching the clouds before now. Dragon Age: Inquisition is set to arrive for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and PC sometime in Q3 2014.
