There has been a fair bit of talk in the video game industry as of late about the legal gray area surrounding players who monetize gameplay videos. Nintendo infamously stepped in to claim the profit from YouTube “Let’s Plays” of their intellectual property, while also later blocking a livestreamed Super Smash Bros. tournament. Many pundits and journalists are awaiting similar moves from other publishers, as big businesses attempts to get their cut.
Enter Devolver Digital. The publisher best known for Serious Sam and Hotline Miami issued a statement today to make clear their stance on the situation. In fact, they went ahead and built an entire site dedicated to the issue. You should visit it right here and see for yourself. Go ahead. I’ll wait.
Did you check it out? Did you make sure to refresh the page repeatedly? If not, go do that. Just refresh that site over and over while you appreciate the fact that at least one company in the industry still has a sense of humor.
