Following a business quarter of loss and drop in profit Capcom has announced plans to redouble their efforts to tap into the increasingly lucrative mobile market. Earlier today they announced (to much consternation from some) that they would be bringing back their long dormant Breath of Fire series as a mobile game. Now comes the announcement of two more mobile titles that are poised to bring the company’s most popular characters to the mobile arena as well.
First up is Street Fighter: Battle Combination, a game which is being described as a card-based RPG that attempts to translate the classic Street Fighter bouts into a new play style. Players will have to build decks of cards to represent their chosen fighters and then engage in 5-on-5 team battles. The game looks to draw its graphical style from the Street Fighter IV series and will arrive for iOS and Android in Japan on October 22. An international release for the title has yet to be confirmed, but I have my fingers crossed because frankly this one looks right up my alley and then some.
The second newly announced mobile title from Capcom will be a massive crossover by the name of Street Fight X All Capcom. It will feature a staggering 500 characters to begin with taken from over twenty different Capcom properties. Said properties will include Darkstalkers, Mega Man, Ghost Trick, Monster Hunter, Viewtiful Joe, and more. Details on the actual game remain vague at the moment with Capcom describing it as (at least according to Shoryuken.com’s translation) a “hero-raising RPG.” Make of that what you will.
I of course am always down for a good crossover game, but let us just hope that this is not a repeat of the last time Capcom tried the crossover route on mobile. Or worse….
Street Fighter X All Capcom is currently being aimed for release on iOS and Android on November 19 in Japan and like SF:BC has yet be confirmed for international release.
