A new shambling mess has just taken the prize for being the most bloated corpse of crass cash-ins. Infestation: Survivor Stories, the plucky MMO formerly known as War Z, has surpassed 1.3 million players worldwide, according to publisher OP Productions.
OP productions also touts over 400,000 users logging in per month, with around 100,000 people playing daily on Infestation since its “launch” in December.
Of course, for those who don’t remember, Infestation was originally called War Z, before being forced to change their name for sounding to similar to a registered copyright, let alone be a reference to the popular Day Z mod for Arma II. Also, the game is still plagued with bugs, play-to-win exploitation practices, weak security issues, and likely will never recover from the allegations of actual fraud due to the developers lying about features in and out of the game, which led to its expulsion from Steam for a time.
Did I mention it now sits in the top 50 on Steam, and Valve put it up for Summer sale a few days ago? Yeah….
Truth be told, I hate to be flippant, but I would think the general gaming public would be a lot smarter than this. If you really want a survival experience with zombies play Day Z or State of Decay. Both are much better games and won’t screw you over as much.
