At the beginning of the month stories began breaking about what exactly was happening with the long in development Prey 2 and they all seemed to point to Bethesda as the source of the problems keeping the game from release. Now, at last, someone at Bethesda has broken the silence to lay out their side of the story. In an interview with IGN during E3 this year Bethesda VP of PR and Marketing Pete Hines gave a lengthy statement on the Prey 2 situation and it follows in full below.
So there you have it: Bethesda’s apparent official stance on the subject of Prey 2. To give Hines his due, he does come across as fairly passionate about what he is saying and if true it is not a perspective that is completely impossible to understand. On the other hand, he never directly denies the talk of Bethesda trying to buy out Human Head nor does he explain why Bethesda, if they are so prepared to “make tough choices,” has not simply canceled the game outright and/or officially restarted it with a new team. After all, it has been several years and three E3s now and if this really is a case of Human Head being incapable of getting the job done at what point does one simply decide it is never going to improve and cut their losses.
Hines himself talks about Bethesda considering “throwing money at it” as unworkable solution but in that case how will things change? There is probably at least some truth in Hines statement but unless we get more information/confirmation at this point it is difficult to take anything anyone involved says at one hundred percent face value. Or at least that is my opinion. Feel free to share yours in the comments section below and stay tuned to Blistered Thumbs for continuing coverage of this story as it develops.
