5: Mecha Pig – Rocket Knight Adventures. Mostly because of that music.
4: Horsehead – Legend of Zelda 2. I really enjoyed the almost duel-like fighting you had throughout Zelda 2. It felt much more complex and skill based than the first one. Like you actually had to hone your skill with the jumps, your sword’s short length and your shield’s position.
3: Stage 2 Boss – Streets of Rage. You couldn’t just go at this guy, and jump attacks were pointless. Also he was the first boss in the game with an endless respawn minion that almost called for a second player to pull crowd control on him.
2: Astos – Final Fantasy. This bastard had a one hit kill spell. He was the first character you encountered with it. Not only that, he had spells. Also the first with them. He turned your perception of what monsters could do in the game on it’s head and got you thinking about what your White Mage -really- should be doing every turn instead of just using a hammer or healing.
1: Seven Force – Gunstar Heroes. Seven bosses with seven sets of patterns, in one boss fight. And the music that accompanied.

I’m just throwing it out there that Wonder Boy (Monster World III) has a sequel in Monster World IV with plenty of callbacks to its predecessor. The play style is a little different, but it’s some good nostalgia.

I’m guessing you already know about Treasure’s other Megadrive boss fests like Gunstar Heroes and Alien Soldier, though. With one of my personal favorites, Seven Force.

Yeah! I’ve played Monster World 4 and it’s fun as hell. Got the Monster World collection on XBLA.

It’s a shame I never played Gunstar or Alien Soldier, Heard they are really good too. Will get around to it i’m sure but that’s why they were not on my list.

Pro-tip: All you needed to beat the twins in River City Ransom was the chain. You kept mashing the button and they died without ever getting at chance to fight back.

I’ll admit I haven’t been on blistered thumbs for a while now, but I saw someone I didn’t recognize so I decided to check your video out hoping it was something different from the norm.

But all it took was the intro, NES, SNES, Genesis, Playstation and the N64…gee.. haven’t seen anyone review games for those systems a million times before.

You’d think with all the people TGWTG and Blisthered thumbs have making videos at least one of them would focus on lesser known system like the master system, the TG 16, MS-DOS, Amiga, the Commodore, the atari systems, intellivision, coleco, the 3DO, etc. etc.

Well the series is focused around my memories with the consoles in question and as I haven’t ever owned a lot of those systems you mentioned, nothing can be done about that.

Word of advice for future reviews: print the name of the game on the screen, or at least speak it clearly, when revealing it on your list. I’ve never played Dynamite Heady (Heddy? Headdy?) before, so for most of your #1 selection, I was silently shouting at my screen, “WHAT THE HELL GAME IS THAT, DAMMIT?!” I’m fortunately familiar ENOUGH with retro games that I was able to piece it together from stuff you said during the review, but if I were a more of a casual gamer, I think I would’ve left the video with absolutely no idea what game your #1 choice was from.

      Ah well, next time.

    1. Sa-Matra – Star Control 2 – 3DO
    2. Dark Queen – Battletoads – NES
    3. Mike Tyson – Mike Tyson’s Punch Out! – NES
    4. Dark Dragon – Shining Force – Genesis
    5. Twin Vampires – Illusion of Gaea – Genesis

These are the most 5 memorable retro boss fights that come to my mind.

FYI, Silver Sonic was only in the GG/SMS Sonic 2. The boss encountered in the MD/Genesis version is named Mecha Sonic in the japanese instruction manual. So it’s literally the same character in both that game & S&K.

    My List
    1. Gruntilda-Banjo Kazooie
    2. Star Wolf-Star Fox 64
    3. Greater Egg Robo-Sonic & Knuckles (the big robot in Death Egg Zone)
    4. Ganondorf-Ocarina of Time
    5. Meta Ridley-Metroid Prime 3

Honorable mention: every Disney boss in the Kingdom Hearts series. You’d be hardpressed to
