please excuse if this is considered a question with a spoiler in it.

Something I hope they explain in the second game (I’m reeeaally enjoying your LP of it! :D )

If people completely disappear from existence when they die in Heavenly Host why is everyone still aware of Naho? I know it works to Sachiko’s plans to keep the way into Heavenly Host public, but is that or her spiritual strength why she looks so not-dead for a ghost?

This game is quite something. Dark story. I do like these kinds of games myself. Haven’t played a good one in awhile. But I would like to try this. Always doing great work Lotus. I have started my own as well. I was wondering if you had any advice for a newcomer? Don’t mean to bother you.

A newcomer for LP’s? Well, my style isn’t the most common kind, as a lot of people go primarily for humor. I just pretty much talk about what I see, and when relevant, to try discuss its significance. I’m not scripted, so I basically just chat it up while I play games. There’s not much to it, really, except maybe I throw in a joke or two when I think of them, but if I miss an opportunity, I miss an opportunity. I’m STILL kicking myself for not saying “there was a hole here – it’s gone now” in Silent Hill 4, when the hole in your bathroom disappears. :-P

Thanks a lot for your support!

I want to thank you for your advice. I agree about the silent hill 4 joke. It was a perfect spot for the hole joke. But you still do an awesome job at it anyway. I will continue to do my lp. I am really enjoying it. Telling my own experience throughout. I will also keep enjoying your lp’s. Its a pleasure to be talking to you. Looking forward to your next adventure.

I gotta say… this is the perfect sort of game for you to Let’s Play. It’s just the sort of game for quiet, unsettling remarks (seeing how it’s a quiet, unsettling game) and you’re one of the better people that I’ve found for taking in an atmosphere. Also, just finished your Asura’s Wrath LP and I was hoping that you’d make a joke about Deus entering the Karma Fortress. “And then he became ‘Deus Ex Machina” and Asura STILL kicked his ass!” or maybe I missed it…

Yeah, this game has the right amount of gameplay, as well as moments for you to sit back and watch the carnage. There’s also a lot of emotional investment to be had. It’s brilliantly done.

No, I didn’t think of that joke for Asura’s Wrath, though that would have been amusing. Of course, he wasn’t coming from a machine, but rather going in, so maybe he would have just been Deus Machina. :-D

Also I’d like to say that if I didn’t already love your videos when I saw that you were part of Thatguywiththeglasses.com, I’m now never going to stop watching because you sir are amazing and I look forward each week to a new LP, no matter what it is. ^^

Oh Corpse Party, you seemed so awesome and so refreshing, until I got stuck in an infinite loop of the same endings because of specific requirements for so many endings, good and bad..

Still, even if I was forced to hit up a faq even though I really didn’t want to, I had a lot of fun with it overall.

Also, yeah, the most “disturbing” thing in the game is done with voices and descriptions while you stare at a black screen/face eventually.

More depressing then violent, and makes you just face palm that people wanted a freaking dub with such amazing voice work..

Yeah, I needed to use a FAQ for Chapter 5, myself. There is way too big of a window to irrevocably screw up the chapter.

And wait, people wanted a dub? Why would you even.

Yeah, it was just chapter 5 here also. But I saw the Ayumi wrong end like 9 times blindly before I started getting irritated and hit up a spoiler free faq, lol.

But the dub stuff was pretty sad when I first started playing it/seeing news about the game.

Lots of people posted about “I don’t want to read everything!” or “I don’t understand them so it means nothing to me!” and the like.

Mainly on message boards/news stories on sites similar to here. Was always a “Seriously….?” reaction.

Think people also complained about Tom’s (wydwad) translation for not saying the EXACT things said, and dropping honorifics and the like.

Even if you understand most everything spoken, you can see where he was coming from with his choices and why he avoided the disconnects to the game for the people playing.

Although I might get down voted again until you hear the “shloop” noise (*nudge nudge*) from my dragged corpse for saying that chapter 5′s requirements where the only thing I disliked, heh.

First Asura´s wrath and now this…you SIR are AWSOME.As for this game being depressing…it didnt depress me.It grossed me out a few times with some of the death scenes but it didnt depress me.It has a great story though and i´m glad your lping it.And trust me when i say the death scenes in the sequel are FAR worse. And if you realy want a game that will depress you try Fragile Dreams: Farwell Ruins Of The Moon on the WII THATS a depressing game. Also notice the title of the game.See those letters that are a brighther red? What word does it spell*hint hint*

Woah, that’s crazy! I never noticed the “curse” hidden word in there! Woah, thanks for pointing that out!

This game still REALLY depressed me. There were such miserable scenes in there, throughout. The end of Chapter 1 was particularly brutal. As for nastier death scenes, yes, Book of Shadow’s death scenes are technically more brutal, but they hit with such frequency that they actually didn’t impact me as much as the first game’s death scenes did, just because when the first game hit you hard, it came out of nowhere. In Book of Shadows, it’s usually par for the course. That said, I am indeed LP’ing Book of Shadows, so you can catch what I have on youtube or the TGWTG blogs now, or wait until I put the whole thing on BT later. :)

Finally, regarding Fragile Dreams, I actually do own the game, but I haven’t yet played it. I look forward to it, though. :)

Thanks a lot for your support!

So glad you did this LP, I’m torn about the game in that I’ve wanted to play it since hearing about it but the game can not be gotten (outside of Japan) in physical form and downloaded games seem just as wrong as downloaded books (I still need something in my hands).

But I’ll watch the LP and if it looks as good as I’m afraid it is I might have to reconsider my stance.

      1. It’s freaking brilliant.
      2. It’s freaking depressing. I mean, my god.

I can’t technically say that the game is violent, other than some still images, as you don’t tend to see violence, but the amount of violence that’s implied…wow. You would not BELIEVE what this game can do with minimal visuals, text boxes, and voice acting. Hell, the most uncomfortable moments in the game for me had NO visuals – just a black screen – and text boxes and voice acting.

Yeah, that’s actually why it wound up with a PEGI 16 rating in Europe rather than the expected PEGI 18. Despite the intense violence, you only ever really see the aftermath — you hear the violent acts being committed (boy do you ever!), and you read all about them, but you never actually see knives puncturing flesh or anything like that. It’s all just off-camera.

Glad to hear you “enjoyed” the game, BTW (Tom from XSEED here). This game was my baby, and is still the project I’m most proud to have worked on, even including its own sequel (which you should also check out, if you get a chance — it’s even MORE intense and depressing, believe it or not!). And while it certainly did well enough for us and seems to have a very vocal fan community, it’s always good to see it getting exposure, especially on big sites like Blistered Thumbs and That Guy With the Glasses. The more people there are who know about this, the better (and the farther the Sachiko Ever After charm will spread! Mwa ha ha!). ;)

I watched the first 5 or so installments of this Let’s Play so far (only intended to watch one, but couldn’t stop!), and I have to say, you’re an excellent LPer — and I’m not usually a fan of LPs. I’ll definitely have to check out some of your other work as well.

Oh wow, no way! It’s a pleasure to meet you! Andrew (vysethebold) has told me about you. I know that guy from college. :-D

Regarding the rating, it sounds like the first Fatal Frame game, which got a T rating, despite having dismemberment and eye piercing. It cut away just before you actually saw the violence both times. Even so, I’m surprised that this game got away without the maximum rating, as some violence is still there, and it’s brutal.

As for Book of Shadows, I actually am LPing it. I’ve been uploading my previous LP’s to Blistered Thumbs, as I’m working to catch up with myself. I’ve actually beaten Book of Shadows, and ohhhhh, wow. Chapter 5 and the final chapter are certainly my favorites of the bunch, and I’ll definitely be putting the game on Blistered Thumbs at a later date. I have a blast looking for wrong ends with that one. :)

Regarding sequels, if you’re allowed to disclose this information, you wouldn’t happen to know if there are any plans of bringing Dead Patient or Sachiko’s Birthday over, would you? Those would be amazing to see.

Once again, it was great to meet you, and thank you very much for your support! Congratulations on your and XSEED’s success at bringing over games like these! They’re definitely appreciated!

Ah, cool! Vyse is a good guy. Just ran into him at MAGFest a couple months ago.

I can’t really disclose anything we haven’t publicly announced, but we’ve been pretty vocal about loving the series and wanting to continue working on it, so I highly doubt you’ve seen the last of Corpse Party from us. ;)

(Consequently, I can’t WAIT to play Dead Patient! Next month is when chapter 1 gets officially unveiled in Japan, and it’s easily my most anticipated video game release.)
