The Old Republic is adding same-sex romances, elder game content and more with their first expansion, Rise of the Hutt Cartel. According to an update by BioWare executive producer Jeff Hickman, the same-sex romances will be one of several new features introduced in Rise of the Hutt Cartel, which will allow players to romance NPC’s on the new planet Makeb. Future plans may see these romances carry over to companions, but Hickman does admit that the implementation of this will be difficult.
Rise of the Hutt Cartel has also promised more “elder game content,” meaning new flashpoints, operations, and PvP options for level 50 players. The Digital expansion will be the first of many expansions that will introduce new content for players, something Hickman says is “top priority” for The Old Republic, which has been criticized for being light on end-game content since its launch in 2011. Other plans include more PVP options and the ability to transfer characters to public test servers.
The changes will all be gradually implemented, but most of them will come out when Rise of the Hutt Cartel is released this spring.

At the Star Wars Guild Summit there was a video shown to the attendees that detailed the upcoming 1.2 Mega-Patch. Finally, after much waiting, comes the actual clear and HD version of that video…

Much like the Jedi, you were deceived. I was in the beta test all along! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Birdman comes out swinging against the last son of Krypton and wants to know if there has been a good Superman game? Oh yeah, happy 3 year anniversary for RAD as well!
To be honest I think they’re missing the point. The meat of what makes SWTOR great is the story, and the game gets boring when you run out of story. Flashpoints, raids, and even pvp are fun but after a while they become tedious because the challenge wears off and/or you’re not seeing anything new.
I think they’d be better off if they just kept pumping out new planets to quest on and added new chapters to the class stories along with it, and raids/dungeons should be tide-me-overs between releases of story content. Increase the level cap and make endgame gear easier to obtain so you can gear up between expansions without it feeling like you put a ton of effort in and now it’s worthless.
Sadly, it might be too late for this. I’m only speculating but given that f2p conversion I doubt the SWTOR team has the resources to pull this off.
To be fair, they are adding a new planet and story content with this expansion, albeit not class storylines. And I agree, the story content is their strongest suit. I can only hope they put the money they are getting from the cartel market towards more content like this.
Yeah, with THIS expansion. But prior to this expansion going back to the game’s launch, the new content they’ve added has been: New dungeons, new raids, new daily quest hubs. New armor sets, which are mostly just reskins of the older sets. A lot of classes have hideous armor models and reskinning it another color doesn’t make gearing/playing those classes any more palatable.
Nothing there that resembles the experience of a planet’s story.
I’m sure they got a surge of cash from their cash shop purchases, but I think that’s going to dwindle fairly quickly, since the things people are buying are permanent upgrades like bank access, more actionbars, the ability to display legacy names and titles and use the color unification system.
Probably the biggest problem with the F2p right now is that you can only have two characters, and that is something you cant unlock in the cash shop. Which means you can only experience two of the game’s 7.5 class stories and if you find you don’t like the ones you picked, you either have to delete them and try another (wasting all your time) or suffer with it (which means you wont play because you’re not enjoying it).
I think if they had an item that would let you add character slots one by one that would be a good seller.
Why are the homosexual relationships the headline of the expansion everywhere? Did Bioware announce the features in that order?
Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice that they finally get into the game, but it’s a really small feature compared to what else should be in an expansion.
Well from what I have read it was a promised feature back at launch that they wanted to implement, so yeah, I guess you can argue that it was promised in that order.
Looks like I have a reason to create more female characters, lol
