Confirmed: The next console is called the ‘triangle circle cross square.’

In a move containing all of the subtlety of a rhinoceros stampede, Sony has released a teaser and website for a mysterious announcement. The PR line at the moment is that we will “See the future” on February 20, 2013. Until then, see the video below.

A new PlayStation console is all but certain at this point, but it could always be a Legend of Dragoon reboot (Please?). Either way, you can go to the link below to sign up for email notification of the announcement, assuming that you can’t remember the date. Also, there’s a promotional hashtag, because why wouldn’t there be?

    Hurray, they’re finally announcing AOXO!

In all seriousness, I have yet to be excited for this. I want to disprove the rumor of them blocking used games, and it needs PS3 backwards compatibility. Otherwise, no thanks. I am worried that it will be more powerful than than the Wii U.

Agreed. Plus, it’s the price that I’m also worried about. If it’s priced too much, then there is no way I’m going to get one in the first couple of years.

Given the hardware that is in the dev kits the system would probably be the same price as it is now 299.99 since they used all prebuilt hardware it will be easy to program for and yes based on the dev kits it floors the WII-U easy 2 gigs of vid ram 8 gigs of ram and a quad core AMD processor.

Yeah, backwards compatibility, it’s not like sony seriously screws that up constantly. I’m not holding my breath.

the ps1 backwards compatibility was fine in the ps2 and in the ps3 and since the new unit will use blue ray it will likely play at least ps3 games and ps1 games.

I agree with the PS2 that was fine, but PS3? Lemme just try to play this old ps1 game here..oh, nope. Let me try this PS2 game I got here, oh nope.

NOPE. PS3 SUCKS at backwards compatibility. It doesn’t play ‘em. You know what it DOES do though? It does make internal memory cards for games IT CAN’T PLAY.

Lol what were you trying to play Jumping Flash or Battle Arena Toshinden because all the ones I tired worked fine but most were either big games or later gen ps1 titles.

It’s a well known fact that sony gave up putting backwards compatibility in the new PS3′s including the slims. That’s why it doesn’t play them. You really think I’m LYING to you?

The PS3 can play ps1 games including slims I know because I have a slim. so yeah, I am going to call bullshit on you. Ps1 games can be purely emulated on software alone they only took the chipset out to play the PS2 games and if you download the PS2 games from PSN those are being emulated by software still. You have to generate a card in order to save them. SO sony did an excellent job with backwards compatibility, its not their fault that people not buying their ps2 disc compatible models costed them money. ALso yes I play my PS1 discs on my slim… not PSN titles. SO link me?

The only compatibility they gave up on is the ps2 because it really needed the chipset to run the games properly and the emulators they put in the later models for ps2 games took too much time to get working properly so they just dropped it but with ps1 games those are easy to emulate.

I’m happy that this site atleast has the (probably) in the title… .
every dutch site i’m going to has like “Sony will announce PS4 on feb. 20″ or “PS4 is coming?” titles ect.
And i hardly doubt that they will announce the PS4 just yet…

idk why maybe it’s me but wouldn’t it have been a better hype if they trew it out in the open on like E3 this year or something?

all in all i wont say that it CAN’T be a PS4 announcement, but i’m with sylveria that chances are bigger that it ends up being a new vita or PS3 model thing actually.

anyway wait and see i guess…

At this point Sony needs to impress investors. The fact that it’s a media and investors event I’m pretty sure it’s to announce the PS4. Announcing the PS4 now would give them 4 months to talk about the system before they show off the games at E3. It would be a very smart move to show what they have before Microsoft does. Sony can’t afford to screw up the next console cycle.

A little long winded. Sorry about that. lol

I really am doubtful that its a teaser for the PS4. I just really doubt that they would announce it this soon into the year, I expected it to be sometime in the second quarter at the least and that the console won’t come out until next year.

Also, I don’t like legend of Dragoon… So I pray that it is not that(Sorry Austin); I’m a legend of Legaia man.

      Can’t we have both? Please?

It’s not the PS4. It’s the PS3 Super Ultra Hyper Slim model. Or the PS Vita GO that only plays downloadable games and costs the same as a regular Vita.

no it’s actually the PS4 except this time not much different from PS3 but it would surely cost around $1,000. It comes without backward compatibility so expect PS2 & PS3 games re-released in HHD for the PS4. Also you must be online to play all games even single player types otherwise it would automatically shut down when disconnected. More importantly if the console detects a used game inside it it will self destruct.

No, there is only “Legend of Legaia”; all other RPGs are inferior and should bow to the high kings of gaming. /sarcasm

        Genius, pure genius.
