What I like the most of having a console is that I don’t need to upgrade it every 2-3 years with new components + I like playing games with a gamepad.
But 400 $, here in Sweden it’ll probably cost closer to 600 $, is a bit too much. I usually wait a year or more before buying a new system.
If the next game system is made out of off-the-shelf components, could I, in theory, build one myself?
By specification, yes, but you can rest assured that Microsoft & Sony will use proprietary data coding on their discs that prevent them from being used on any other optic based drive. In other words, you could create a PC of the same components (provided the rumour is true, and provided they announce their specific components), but that doesn’t mean you can make a PS4 or an XBOX PREMATURE-EJACULATION that will be compatible with the games they release (unless they’re PC versions of said games).
So the next PS and Xbox might be based on a PC design? Hell, as long as I won’t be playing with a mouse and keyboard, I’m game.
So basically Bioware included in the Star Wars universe the home planet of Dr. Frankenfurter? They hired Tim Curry to voice a character before, now about having him do an entire planet?
Video games are judged on a different level than movies because there are people out there who will forever see video games as just for babies, end of story. Also, I think the NRA decided to single out Bulletstorm simply because the title raises eyebrows.
If I’m forking over 400 bucks for a console, it damn well better be backwards compatible at least with the previous generation.
This episode had a lot of great moments (as the title shows). But I’m really dissapointed nobody called Leon Gravityboner.
I still blame that cross attack bullcrap for only worsening the reputation that gamers are mysoginist. I for one love meeting girls that play games. I once lost a MvC3 match against a girl and it was awesome! Someday I shall have a rematch.
That Dead Island thing is so ‘guro.’ I bet 2chan will be masturbating all over it.
I think if it’s a game mechanic in Riptide to pick up and throw a bodypart to a zombie to slow it down it has it’s context but yeah, the torso is not a good idea.
As for Katawa Shoujo I liked the game very much until the end. It had nice visuals and the music was pleasant. The problem is the ending I got was horrible and kinda nonsensical. I’m not saying that I wouldn’t end up that way if I was in that school but I hoped I will get some hot crippled action. It destroyed my self esteem
And I’m like Leon, once I see the end credits I’m done with the game. Tho I don’t understand why Leon doesn’t like it, aren’t JRPGs full of text and dialogue?
JRPG’s have lots of text and dialogue. It also has lots of fights, puzzles, quests, collecting, etc. I don’t mind heavy story at all. I rather like it. I just want some gameplay in my games.
I don’t know what the developers have said, but I don’t really see Katawa shoujo as a game, it dosen’t even have that many choices in it (although those that you get almost always make the story branch in different ways) compared to dating sims.
I see it more as a visual novel, but if someone goes into it expecting gameplay or alot of dialogue-choices I can see that they would get dissapointed. I really liked it though, even if it had some trouble with some forced erotic sequences.
Actually, Katawa Shoujo is an example of a typical visual novel game; visual novels with gameplay actually exist and aren’t that uncommon …it’s just that not very many of them have been officially localized until very recently. Let me list some of them (and before anyone points out the Phoenix Wright series, those are kind of obvious):
Aselia the Eternal
This is an all ages VN released by JAST that is very heavy on the strategy RPG elements (it’s actually challenging, especially if you do the dragon slaying sidequests) and has a very good (and long) story to match. If you like JRPGs, you’ll like this.

Moero Downhill Night Blaze
Just recently started playing this as I’ve played and liked its prequels, thing is this is the first of them where you actually race. Since this is an AU take on the second game, you can pay this without playing the previous ones.

Lightning Warrior Raidy 1 and 2
Both of these are old school dungeon crawler RPGs that’s kind of like an eroge take on the old Dragon Quest games system-wise. I consider them fun, but don’t go into this expecting much more than ero scenes when it comes to story.

Princess Waltz
This is an action/adventure eroge that has a good story and a fun card based battle system that can get challenging.

Koihime Musou
A take on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms story that’s both interesting and funny, the characters are all likeable, and the gameplay’s nice. There’s even a demo available if want to try it out first:

Kara no Shoujo
A murder mystery eroge where you do some investigating and gathering evidence kind of similar to how it’s done in the Phoenix Wright games. Also has a demo to try out:
