Shinkara: Folklore, 9.2 out of 10 based on 11 ratings

What would a game made by Tim Burton be like? Probably a little something like Folklore, only with Johnny Depp playing the main character.

my internets being wonky so i cant watch this right now, but RIGHT ON! someone else remembers this game other than me! I loved this and thought it was sad how it didn’t sell well at all. THe story in particular was interesting as hell. I gotta watch this later on and see exactly what you got to say about this hidden gem

Yes! You are one of my favorite people now! All because you reviewed Folklore, one of my all-time faves and a game I never stop recommending to people! Keats needed to be in the PS3 All-Stars game!

    Just two things:
You can’t play the entire game as one character you have to switch between Ellen and Keats because on certain chapters something will happen to one of the characters and they can’t move on until the other reaches the same point in the story.

Your required to do more than just absorbing the same folk over and over to level them up you also have kill a number of folks, give one of your folks a number of collectable items (like berries if I recall), not take any damage in a fight, ect.

That said this is the most atmospheric game I’ve played on the PS3 with the sound and scenery I would take my time walking instead of running through the levels to get a feel for the world.

I’d say the gameplay more feels like a Persona game with real-time than Pokemon if you think about it Personae and Folks are not that different, like the requirement to become a Persona or Folk.

Ah thanks! I had recorded this footage awhile ago and forgot how far along you could go with switching characters. Annotation added.

I totally agree on the atmosphere. That aspect was one of the main reasons why I enjoyed this game so much.

It’s weird that this comes up cause I just got it on black-friday/cyber-monday weekend. I haven’t had a chance to play it other than the demo way, way back when. I actually got interested in owning it after playing Devil Summoner a couple weeks back and it seems fairly similar in style.

As far as the price.. if you want it new it still does carry a fair tag considering the age – $30+ new. But you can get it used for $15-20 fairly easily.
