Lotus Prince Let’s Play: Silent Hill Origins (Complete)!, 10.0 out of 10 based on 4 ratings

It’s been a long time since I’ve played a Silent Hill game, but we’re finally back, and ready to run through the dark, foggy town once again! We play as Travis Grady, a trucker who soon finds himself trapped in Silent Hill. However, this game takes place before the events of the first Silent Hill, so we may get to see some familiar faces in Travis’s adventure! Let’s go crazy!

I don’t care, any game where you can defeat unholy abominable monsters by throwing tiny TVs at them can’t be all bad!

    Excellent LP, as always. :-D

Silent Hill hasn’t been Silent Hill since Konami gave it to other developers. None of these developers have any clue what Silent Hill is really about, they’re just mimicking what worked in SH2. Origins is so unnecessary and creates so many plotholes with SH1. The idiots that did Homecoming probably just saw the shitty movie and didn’t even play the original games! And Shattered Memories….don’t get me started on that one! Ugh, and fans think these games are true to SH just because Akira Yamaoka is involved! He’s just a sound designer, he doesn’t overlook the story. The dumbasses at Climax, and Double Helix, and Vatra are the ones screwing that job up. There aren’t multiple dimensions in Silent Hill!! There’s just one dimension!!

Origins works decently for me because it’s true to form, if something of a flawed product. Homecoming had too much of a combat focus, but its story was pretty awesome. Shattered Memories wasn’t scary in the slightest, but its story was INCREDIBLE. Downpour is trying to bring Silent Hill back to what it used to be, though it stumbled a few times.

It’s Book of Memories that pisses me off.

Yeah, it took awhile, but Origins is finally up! I did a bunch of LP’s between SH4 and this one because I couldn’t record console footage until I picked up a Dazzle, and I just HAD to start with Eternal Darkness. Also, I didn’t own Homecoming or Shattered Memories at the time, so doing Origins by itself would’ve felt a bit off.

Speaking of which, after Shattered Memories, I won’t get to Downpour for a bit, because that game hadn’t even come out at the time I recorded SM. :-P

Thanks a lot for your support!

Well, it’s “nice” to see that they kept the experience of playing it on the PSP the same, lol.. Would be insanely hard to see anything at many times.

Was dang near impossible to play anywhere but at home in a dark room, and you still couldn’t see much.

I heard that the PS2 port was a general improvement over the PSP version, regarding camera angles, or something like that.

That said, yeah, this game gets quite dark. It can be quite vexing. :-P

Dear GODS I hate this game. Homecoming isn’t great, but I seriously don’t get Phelous’s take that THAT one is the worst of the franchise. Just…I can’t, can’t stand this one.

(written before watching this particular Let’s Play, yet to be seen if LP will change my mind)

A lot of people say that Homecoming is the worst, and I definitely disagree. Its combat was irritating, but its story was actually quite well handled, in my opinion. Origins is going back to form. Its destructible weapons are irritating, but you get so many of them that it never affects you (essentially making the destructibility pointless in the first place, but whatever).

Honestly, I think this game gets a bad rep because it tries so hard to be Silent Hill 2, when it’s not. That said, it’s a decent game in its own right.

I think at the moment, the worst Silent Hill game would be either the arcade game, which I’ve seen and feels more like Resident Evil than Silent Hill, or the hack-and-slash spinoff on the PSV Book of Memories, which despite blistered thumbs giving it a high score still seems to me a terrible idea for a Silent Hill game. And lo and behold neither of these are in the proper genre for Silent Hill.

I heard the arcade game was bad, but I really want to play it.

Book of Memories sounds like it’s actually a good game, regarding basic gameplay, but I refuse to even attempt to play it, as it’s a bastardization of everything Silent Hill.

Hell, I’d take the Game Boy Color visual novel game over Book of Memories. At least it’s Silent Hill 1, and it even has puzzles.
