Still, I think all the comments thus far just show how many different opinions there are about game music out there. I’ve certainly learned of a few songs I’m going to need to listen to when I find the time.

Pretty much all the themes you listed are good as well. There are just so many great ones out there that it’s impossible to mention everything that deserves it on one list.

I especially have to agree with Eggman’s theme from Sonic Adventure 2 and Viewtiful Joe’s theme from MvC2. Those are both really good in their own right and the only reason Eggman’s theme isn’t here is because I like a couple others from the series just a slight bit more.

Though, I really am going to have to get Kid Icarus: Uprising sometime soon. Every time I hear anything about that game, it’s always about how awesome it is.

Some of my favorites would be Magnus, Hades, and Dark Pit’s themes form Kid Icarus Uprisng, Like all the music from that game(or every aspect in general) is near perfection and fits all three rather well. Zero’s from the Megaman X series, His theme, while it changes from game to game, it still retains the same vibe, and the music alone describes that Zero is a badass, on the topic of Megaman X, Marino, Massimo and Spider from MMX command Mission also deserve a mention for all there themes are a blast to listen to and accurately embodies each character.

Dante and Viewtiful Joe’s respective themes in MvC3/UMvC3, Dante’s ” Devil’s Never Cry tells Dante’s story and the angelic and demonic singing represents the duality of Dante’s character, Joe’s is fitting cause its so upbeat and joyous and Joe himself is a fun-loving guy. Dart from Legend of Dragoon’s theme, just embodies badassness and awesome, Meru from the same game is very charming and light-hearted just like her and its just a damn infectious song. Frank West’s theme from Dead Rising: Off the Record, its a goofy ass song, but at the same time tells Frank’s story from beginning till present.

Wolf’s theme from Starfox, its just an awesome song, not much else I can say. Eggman’s theme from Adventure 2, fitting, catchy, and enjoyable. and the aforementioned albedo’s theme, you said it best, it sets the scene, puts you in the mood, tells you there’s something bad about to happen, but nothings going to prepare you for what’s about to happen.

I also prefer Cyan’s theme to Terra’s in FFVI. But again its also technically the theme of his home as well. Terra’s theme would also make the list though, as it symbolizes a lot of her sadness and coldness at the beginning of the game perfectly. And probably Celes’s theme too, but its also the opera house music as well.

FFIV needs to be on here somewhere. All of them had really great tunes, but its Cecil’s Red Wings theme that always got me. (They were all really good though). As well as his music for his change during the game.

My list would definitely include Maya’s song from Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, and its many remixes.

Dragon Quest IV’s Taloon theme song from Chapter III is a personal favorite, its such a cheerful song and really fits the merchant well.

Agree about Simon’s theme. Castlevania’s song to me right there.

Dark Wizard, I would put nearly all of the songs for each of the main characters on here. My favorite though was Amon’s theme, so creepy fitting for a vampire pretending to be a king. The Prince’s theme was sweeping and epic though as well befitting a defender of light.

Guile’s Theme from Street Fighter. Its a song that just sounds like determination made into music.

The truth about character themes though is you need to care about and identify with the characters a lot for them to have any impact. I’ve played a lot of video games, and it seems to me like mostly the SNES ones have been able to hold through the test of time. Chrono Trigger, FFIV/FFVI, etc.

But even if it doesn’t count it is still an amazing song and I love it too. Actually I love the soundtrack to Okami in general XD
