Taylor’s love of the PSP flourished during his 1 year stay in South Korea. Whether it be on the subway, bus, or long walks on the beach, the PSP’s allure grew in Taylor’s heart. When he’s not playing games, he enjoys playing the guitar, making videos, and trying to learn the words to various KPOP songs. Favorite game of this generation: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Favorite game of all time: Persona 4.

The Last Story is an all too appropriate title to potentially send the Wii out on a high note. Has Mistwalker created the Wii’s swan song, or just more shovelware? Taylor lets you know in this episode of Shinkara!

What was almost the Lost Story for NA gamers now finally has an official release date.
It’s almost here.
Sakaguchi’s latest fantasy is out in Europe a bit in advance. So let’s discover this gem with Benzaie !
As The Last Story just begins hitting store shelves in the UK and Europe, Nintendo has released one final trailer co-directed by none other than Hironobu Sakaguchi, the game’s director, himself.
Nintendo held a live online broadcast earlier today in which they released a bevy of news, including the fate of the long desired North American release of the highly anticipated Wii RPG The Last Story.
The Wii exclusive RPG will be released in Europe on February 24th, 2012.

If Nintendo needed any kind of proof that Mistwalker’s The Last Story would be an instant hit, this would be it.

I’ll be sure to pick it up after I beat Xenoblade.
I think it says a lot about the Wii that we have to use words like “Reason to dust off” when talking about it. *sigh* I feel like I got duped by Nintendo again when I bought it.
Great review!
nice review and very soulful. i like it. but Shinkara in your history lesson about the company Mistwalker you left some very vital information. even though Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu are the biggiest draws of this game for many players, its the other staff of Mistwalker that make it even more awesome. Mistwalker was origonally formed from most of not all of Sacanoth (later named Natalus)game studio. their the ones that made great cult favorites like Kodelka on the PS1 and the Shadow Hearts series on the PS2. if you played the game Last Odyssey and Shadow hearts before it, you will notice some hints of the game mechanics similar between those two.
on a final note i would like to make a request from you to make a review of the Kodelka and Shadow Hearts series. they are really great games and deserve to be known more by gamers everywhere. i hope you take my request to heart and i can’t wait for you next video.
peace
Nice overview! It certainly looks good, and it has been greatly hyped. I don’t know if I’d call it quite a swan song as there are surprisingly a couple of other Wii games coming down the pike, but it probably is the last great JRPG on the system. As far as swan songs go, I think that honor will probably go to the Kirby collection. True it’s not an original game per se, but it is a great way to go out with a bang.
Great game! I picked it up on a whim at the local Gamestop and I played it through for several hours straight. I would have to agree with a lot about what you said Taylor. BTW, I thought you were no longer a contributor to BT.
Yeah…long story, lol.
This is an interesting game. I never was into final fanasty games (squaresoft or square-enix) or any kind of RGPs. This could be my proper introduction by the same man who brought final fanasty.
Perhaps I’ll give a thought of purchasing. This gotta be fun. Thanks for the review Taylor.
Hey glad to see the views go up for this video. The game itself and these videos deserve the praise they get.
I saw this also linked on twitter by Xseed which was really cool.
I missed the Xseed tweet! Thanks for sharing that. Very cool stuff ^__^
I currently playing through Last Story. I haven’t went that far into it yet. (about 2 gameplay hours)
I adore the voice acting so far and personally I love it when a RPG put story and combat mechanics as a priority.
Sure the hide button can get annoying in combat but I got used to it.
I dare you to review a game that has been long forgotten:
Eternal Eyes.
A TBS game that is about puppets and stuff.
But overall great review!
I actually have that game! I may take you up on that dare one day =)
Hey, if we’re suggesting games here… ever play Opoona? It’s like, the forgotten Wii RPG, but it quickly rose the ranks to become one of my top 10 favorite video games of all time after I played through it (not favorite RPGs, but favorite *games*). It’s a hard game to pin down because there’s nothing else quite like it, and it doesn’t give the strongest first impression, but if you stick with it you’ll find one of the deepest, most well-constructed and immersive game worlds ever to appear in any Japanese RPG. I wrote a full review of the game on GameFAQs, and would recommend checking it out if you’re at all interested.
All I know is, any game world that’s so detailed as to have its own fully realized ART HISTORY, complete with unique movements and popular figures within those movements, is a game deserving of some love.
Also, it has puppies. Crazy, crazy amounts of puppies. Who can ride around on hoverboards.
Regarding the complaint about there being very little color in this game … Maybe you should have mentioned the option of changing the colors of your characters, Taylor? The player has many different options, actually, such as changing the color of one’s torso, breeches, upper armor, leg armor, boots. I toyed with this option myself, but in the end I changed very little. I thought the characters looked better in black, especially since they’re supposed to be sneaky and all …
I was mainly referring to the environments with that comment. If you look at the clip that starts at 3:10 it’s almost completely brown and beige, devoid of any color variety.
I hear what you’re saying though. The character customization is pretty substantial, to my surprise.
Wait a just a second… Mistwalker is producing RPGs called “Last Story” and “Conclusive Tale”. I CANNOT be the only one thinking it’s no coincidence that both of those games have titles which just happen to be literal thesaurus-synonyms with “Final Fantasy”. XD
its not a coincidence. its a joke
I can’t wait for “Epilogue Epic”.
You know, if the Wii-U is backwards compatible, I might actually buy it just for this game and Xenoblade Chronicles.
Even though I currently have all of 0$ I’m glad this game is getting good reviews cause I was really rooting for Project Rainfall to get these game.
Huh…I think you’ve convinced me. This may be the first JRPG I will have picked up in years.
Yes, I win! You should watch my other videos. You might end up picking a few other games up

Birdman comes out swinging against the last son of Krypton and wants to know if there has been a good Superman game? Oh yeah, happy 3 year anniversary for RAD as well!
I’ve been really glad to see XSEED succeeding. I’ve loved every game they’ve published that I played.
I already saw this video on your YouTube channel and, again, The Last Story really sound like a game I like to jump in to get exposed to RPG games.
Shinkara, there’s one thing that concerns me. After Jew Wario’s Wii U Unboxing videos just moments ago, one thought I want to know: If what I understand that The Last Story is being said as the one of last games for the original Wii’s library of games, can it as well as my other few Wii games be played on the Wii U?
J-Dub didn’t cover on that part so I was wondering if I were planning to get The Last Story and that I’m interested to get the Wii U (based on Jew Wario’s videos), can the original Wii games play on the Wii U much like the older PS and Xbox games be played on PS3 and 360? I know it’s a stupid question, but the excitement that Nintendo sure are getting it’s grip to produce, publish and present great games for the Wii U since long before it was launched, everyone EVEN the Nintendo gamers (console fanbooys included; can forget about them too
) bash the system and complain about features and games, and not to mention “GRAPHICS! HD!” catchphrases that easily get spread through the internet.
Sorry if I’m creating a text of words instead of talking about your love for XSEED (good for you; don’t get carry away bud
), but I like to hear if what I’m saying is true ’cause that would be a good reason to plan on getting my own Wii U Deluxe Edition set.
Anyway, thanks for the video Shinkara. It’s cool when you get cozy by good games – RPG games that is. How can anyone be able to play extended RPG games in spare time? RPG games takes time to finish them >_>
From what I understand the Wii U is backwards compatible with the Wii! And yes, time…something I wish I had more of!
The Wii U has the entire Wii OS sandboxed into the system. By choosing Wii Menu on your Wii U menu, the system will reboot as a Wii which will then allow you to play any of your Wii games, WiiWare or VC. Also, despise the Last Story’s save data is locked and cannot be backed up on the SD card, your Last Story save data will be transferable to your Wii U when you do the Wii to U transfert process.
Also, something J-Dub might have mentionned incorrectly was that there is indeed Composite and Component support for the Wii U. However, the cables are sold separatly. Only the HDMI cable comes with the console.
As for your little question, Taylor: Rune Factory Frontier. It’s the only Rune Factory game that XSeed localized instead of Natsume and they have done an amazing job with it. It has definatly set up the bar high for Natsume for the next Rune Factory console title which, Tides of Destiny. Thankfully, Natsume also managed to deliver a good localization of ToD in my opinion. I wish XSeed could be given a shot at Rune Factory 4 to see how they would handle it compared to Natsume.
I was playing Last Story BUT…I stopped for a LONG bit because I got hooked on Virtue’s Last Reward and Pokemon White 2 which I got for my bday. Yeah…but I completed them now so I can play Last Story again and actually START on Xenoblade.
Shinkara if your such a huge XSeed fan, How the heck did you miss solatorobo: Red the Hunter?!!

I don’t own a DS D:
Corpse Part: Loved it.
Retro Game Challenge: Loved it.
Ys Oath of Felgana: Loved it.
Last Story: Loved it.
Any game that was published or developed by Xseed, I always loved. Their development and publishing quality is on par with Atlus Games, and that’s saying something!
This and Xenoblade are why I bought a Wii.
Congratulations to XSEED!
I wish that there was a Company similar to them in Europe. Zen United is awful. I don’t want to say that they should be affected negetively, but the slacked of so many times, they fail to deliver constantly and allways pull back release times, it is disgusting.
Hey. Tom from XSEED here. Thanks for the extremely kind words, but, uh… we’re a lot smaller than you think (we only just broke the double-digit barrier recently, with 10 active employees now), and sell a lot fewer copies of things than you give us credit for.
I can’t give you sales numbers, but I can say this much: if you’re guessing how much our games sold based on VGChartz sales numbers… don’t. VGChartz is notoriously wrong about sales numbers, generally overestimating (for smaller companies like us especially) often by a factor of 10 or more. Most of the American sales numbers listed on that site really can’t be trusted at all.
I wish our sales numbers were as high as you’re guessing, though! We’d be really, really happy. Hell, we’re already happy as it is!
At any rate, I’m glad you’re enjoying our games, and I hope you’re looking forward to Corpse Party: Book of Shadows. I was once again the lead translator and editor on the project, so I’m really excited for people to play it. It’s an awesome, awesome sequel!
Dang, I was off! I was basing the company size on NISA, since they have about that many (25 or so). Didn’t realize it was only that few.
Yeah, I’ve learned to take VGChartz numbers with a grain of salt. I was sort of just spit-balling my numbers xD.
Nonetheless, I’m still very happy for the company’s success! Here’s to even more!
Heh. Rereading my original comment, I’m sorry if it came off as haughty or… as an advertisement for Corpse Party: Book of Shadows.
Guess that’s what I get for commenting late at night, right before going to bed!
Really flattering video, though, and I’m really glad you enjoyed Last Story so much. Love your videos, BTW!
So when we gonna hear about Ys Celceta for Vita?
Well… OH HEY LOOK OVER THERE! (runs)
This game was okay. I thought Lost Odyssey was a much better game from Mistwalker. Full congratulations to XSEED though.
