Serious Sam 3 (Xbox 360 Edition) Review / First Impressions , 9.3 out of 10 based on 4 ratings ![]()
Guru Larry and Ian Higton (Platform32) take a first gander at the Xbox 360 port of Serious Sam 3, despite it being released nearly an entire year after the PC original. Is it as good as its computer counterpart? Well, no as it crashes half way through the review. But Check out what Billy Gate’s white box makes of it!

I’ll take dumb, meat-head, 90s gameplay over dumb, meat-head, uber-grit, “realistic” 2000s gameplay.
And if you’re going to play a 90s PC style shooter.. play it on a PC. Playing an Xbox port of Serious Sam.. may as well have just wiped your butt with the money and flushed it. Would have been a smarter investment.
I have played it on PC on second hardest mode, the hardest being locked. I am seriously not sure how could anyone beat it with a console controller, with no aim helper. I have also played some FPS with a controller.
On the PC, the game has one of the best mouse feel I’ve had in any games. I wish FPS games in general catered more to mouse + keyboard players and stop dumbing them down for consoles and shoved crappy ports down our throats.
I’m probably on a secluded island on this one, but I really wanted it to be as silly & cartoony-looking as Serious Sam 2. I did appreciate the return voices though.
Didn’t watch the entire video, but wow, the 360 version looks bad compared to PC. Those freezes and the texture popping just doesn’t happen on PC. Sure the game even on the PC the game isn’t the best looking out there, but it is a load of fun.
Maximum PC wrote this month that the reason PC version look better (unless it’s a shoddy port) is because when a console comes out, PCs are already 3 generations ahead in technology.
Oh that’s a no brainer, most of the time the PC has been ahead of consoles when it comes to technology. But Sam 3 isn’t exactly the most advanced game even the PC version doesn’t seem as hardware intensive as games like the Witcher 2 or Battlefield 3. Even when the game opens up to it’s bigger stages and arenas with tons of enemies on screen.
The only big differential being it’s support for lots of players on co-op and some very wide stages which from what I saw on the video was deftly toned down on the 360 since apparently it’s gone into 4 players max on co-op.
Don’t get me wrong I love the game and play it every now and then on PC, just it seems like the 360 port could have been a lot better.

Welcome back to the discussion show where we introduce the debate and you continue it. This week’s topic: Shaun and Johnny Maloney discuss the past & future of Star Wars video games.
