On-Disc DLC Found in Resident Evil 6… Sort Of, 7.8 out of 10 based on 4 ratings
Yep, Capcom has gone down the dark side once again. Modders have found a whole host of material, including new multiplayer modes for the polarizing game. The new multiplayer modes (which, to be fair, are only partially included on the disc) include “Onslaught,” a competitive Mercenaries game where two players play Mercenaries on separate maps but have the ability to cash in their combos to send enemies, including boss monsters, over to their opponent’s map in a bid to destroy them.
Also included is “Survivors,” a game mode where players (free-for-all or team based) kill other players and turn into monsters upon their death until there is only one surviving player/team, Predator, where one player take on the role of Ustanak (the monster that stalks Jake in the game) and faces off against other players who must kill him before the time runs out. Last is “Siege,” which has a team of players protecting a group of civilians from monsters that are controlled by players. In this mode, the human team can give orders to civilians and the the monster team can cash in points from killing enemies to spawn stronger monsters.
Now, like I said, these modes were only partially on the disc and it’s possible that some of these modes never even made it past early builds and are never going to be added. Capcom even commented that only one bit of DLC “requires the use of a combination of newly downloaded data and data that is included on the retail game disc.” However, there is AN ENTIRE DIFFICULTY MODE for single payer that is hidden on the disc and has even been recorded (as can be seen by the video above). So, Capcom, how about that?
Resident Evil 6 came out last week. Please check out Bennet’s review and our upcoming text review…which I’ll be writing in between loud groans. Please share your thoughts in the comments section. I’d tell you to keep comments civil… but honestly, flame on if you want.

Zombies. That is all.
Also, all versions of the game are getting “Siege” mode.
Better late than never?
Well the game sucks but does the collector edition have its place in your hardcorner ?
They dun it again!
Sage goes off-script and on camera to come as close as he’s ever been to calling betrayal.
Birdman prepares to fight a deadly viral outbreak and uncover deadly conspiracy… so it must be Resident Evil again. Is this a game worthy of the Resident evil legacy?
Resident Evil 2 is not being remade, unless there is a huge fan outcry.

I’d like to play a Resident Evil game with described video enabled. “Chris Redfield, with biceps like bowling balls, shoots a guy. Then he shoots two more guys. Then he shoots a weird looking guy, like a monster or something maybe. It looked unpleasantly moist.”

On-Disc DLC Found in Resident Evil 6… Sort Of, 7.8 out of 10 based on 4 ratings ![]()
So… Resident Evil 6. 4/10. Avoid It. The game’s few good points are drowned out by filler gameplay that takes place in a mostly non-engaging story. The game goes on for far too long and abandons almost all aspects of survival horror so it can utterly fail as a third-person shooter. The music and graphical quality remain almost unchanged from 5. “The Mercenaries” is still fun and the co-op, while mostly average, does have a couple redeeming features, but it’s not enough to keep me from feeling that the franchise needs a reboot. There’s the review. Oh, you can keep reading, but I don’t think we should waste anymore time discussing this game, since it does a great job at wasting everyone’s time already.
| PROS | Leon’s campaign, The final campaign, The Mercenaries |
| CONS | Too long, QTEs, Sub-par gameplay |
| WTF?! | What the logo looks like. I still can’t see anything else. |
Going into this game I was completely neutral. I was ready for an action game, for the horror to be practically nonexistent, and for multiplayer to play a bigger role. What I was not expecting was for the game to have a terrible story, weak gameplay, and to be so damn tedious. This game is a waste of space in anyone’s collection and should be considered a sign that the Resident Evil franchise needs to be put in a box and given a watery grave.
The story of RE6 fails for a number of reasons and unfortunately, since the game clocks in at around thirty hours, the story can’t be ignored. Capcom went with the novel approach of splitting the story between four campaigns which interweave with each other to tell a complete narrative about old Resident Evil characters teaming up with new allies to bring down Neo-Umbrella and their C-virus infused monsters, the Ja’vo. To be completely honest, Neo-Umbrella is one of the bigger problems with the game. The big antagonist of this game is presented as a global threat and is one of the more effective villains in the entire franchise, but they have absolutely no menace. This is thanks in no small part to the death of a long-standing antagonist in RE5. Say what you want about the shades-wearing cornball, but, in addition to having a personal connection to the protagonists of the series, he created a menacing shadow over the entire series and it felt like all the games from Code: Veronica on, were building up to something truly epic. Instead, he got killed off in 5 and an entirely new organization with a magic funding source has set itself up in the brief time period between games. So instead of an old favorite raining hell down on the Earth, we get two new villains we know nothing about who are even more effective than him despite having some of the lamest motivations ever written and being face-palmingly idiotic.
Still, terrible villains or not, the story could still be enjoyable, right? No, gods no. The villains might be bad, but at least you only have to contend with them during a few cutscenes and in a series of boss fights where one of them will just. Not. Die. The new protagonists and Chris in this game are much worse. While Leon, Sherry, and Ada do their jobs well enough, Chris, Jake, Hanna, and Piers are either completely forgettable or downright detestable. Piers, who is Chris’s partner, wins the award for the least amount of characterization in any video game, to the point that I was stunned when the game actually gave him something to do. Otherwise he keeps up a Starbuck/Capatain Ahab routine with Chris but fails to be effective since Chris is an utter douchebag filled with RIGHTEOUS ANGER and, despite the fact that the story does contain a subplot about Wesker’s son, his past connection to the franchise is almost completely ignored, to the point where he could have been replaced by anyone. Hanna is a terrible person that everyone goes out of their way to take care of and the only reason I don’t hate her is that she does get a small comeuppance. Jake, Sherry’s partner, is a character that the game loves, but that I utterly loathe. He acts like a smarmy jackass for the first half of his campaign and then undergoes a radical change of heart after some off-screen character development, though he’s still a smarmy jackass. These characters are completely uninteresting and are yet another reason that I hope Capcom just puts this series to rest.
To round out the utter failure that is the story, the game has all the trappings of a hack writing team. There are plot lines that go nowhere, terrible internal continuity, and it fails to sell the idea of splitting the campaigns, since you must play Leon’s campaign first to understand what the hell is going on in Chris’s campaign. Chris’s campaign is honestly the biggest stumbling block of the entire game, as it includes the worst gameplay and only ties into the main conflict right at the very end. His campaign could have been completely scrapped and his final boss given to Jake and the game would have benefited for it, as Jake’s final boss is (SPOILER) the same one he’s been fighting for his whole campaign.
So, now we can turn to gameplay. At its core, Resident Evil 6 has kept the over-the-shoulder aspect from 4 & 5 but has made an attempt to add on a lot of gameplay mechanics, mostly to the game’s detriment. For example, melee combat has been retooled, making hand-to-hand combat not only more important but overly powerful. It is completely possible to clear a majority of most chapters using only your fists. Yes, there is a stamina bar but it depletes rather slowly and as long as you attack enemies from behind, you won’t waste much stamina. Considering how slow and stupid the A.I. is in this game, you can easily circle around every enemy. The game also takes a page from Left 4 Dead by allowing you to shoot away at enemies while you are downed until the enemies are defeated, you recover your stamina, your partner rescues you, or you are hit and killed by an enemy. This mechanic does actually work, though it takes forever for your character to ready their weapon, unlike Left 4 Dead, where your character automatically whips out his or her guns to mow down zombies.
The game also includes two gameplay elements, vehicle sections and stealth sections, that admittedly do add some variety, but have their own problems. The vehicle sections are some of the worst parts of the entire game, with one exception, though even that one suffers from going on for too long. However, the ones that are bad are really bad, including a flying section that has terrible controls and involves you firing at targets that are too far away to really see and dodging missiles by doing barrel rolls (and Peppy is nowhere around). Then of course there two driving sections, one of which gives the second player nothing to do and the other one forces one player to be completely dependent on the driving skills of the other (expect fights to break out during these sections).
The stealth sections are a mixed bag though, though it was an element I appreciated overall. Within the game, it is always possible to sneak up on enemies and take them out with a physical attack, but there are a few points in the game where you either are up against an invincible enemy or there are too many enemies to take on by yourself. The first type is actually pretty fun since it has a hiding mechanic similar to Capcom’s Haunting Ground and Clock Tower series. The only thing that hurts this experience is the fact that it is FAR too easy. The other type mostly shows up during the last campaign and is actually pretty fun since it shows the engine is capable of doing a decent stealth game, with the exception of a segment where you have to dodge spotlights, where the limitations of the engine are shown off; namely, that the cover system in this game is crap.
If this game was still survival horror I wouldn’t mind, but Capcom made the game a straight-up third-person shooter without adding a lot of the trappings that the genre has become known for like a cover system (or at least one that allows you to hide behind low walls) or decent enemy A.I. Instead, we get enemies who can easily be beaten to death with melee attacks and rarely, if ever, try to dodge out of the way. The controls are also mostly left unexplained. There’s no manual and, aside from a tutorials that explain combining herbs the menu and how to slide, there’s nothing to tell you how to do the more complex options, like a shortcut for combining herbs so you don’t have to go into the menu or how to equip different types of grenades on the grenade launcher.
Of course, one thing that doesn’t need much explanation are the games many, many, dear-god-why so many quick time events. While games like Bayonetta use QTEs to pull off special moves or do extra damage, RE6 has you use them for practically everything, including some of the most annoying climbing sections in gaming ever. Add in some annoying timing puzzles and some split second input time during a vehicle section, and you have some of the biggest abuses of this mechanic in gaming history. In addition to be annoying, it also raises your expectations that you’ll be using quick time events to escape from almost everything. Then you run into enemies that will automatically kill you if you are knocked down, or get crushed by falling ceilings without warning. So not only are these QTEs annoying, they don’t even get you away from danger.
Another big problem with the game is that most of the bosses are surprisingly uninteresting and the ones that are interesting, like a lot of other elements in the game, go on far too long. For example, Leon and Jake both have recurring bosses that you fight at least five times. While recurring bosses can be used effectively in video games, these two examples are extremely grating and are only slightly redeemed by having one awesome moment each. The other bosses in the game feel like they are rip offs of better bosses from earlier entrants in the series.
As for multiplayer, the only options you have are The Mercenaries, co-op, and “Agent hunt.” The Mercenaries has remained virtually unchanged and so has co-op, with one exception. Since there are points in the story where the campaigns merge, the game will try to join with other players who are at the same point, so up to four players can be tackling a mission. The only real complaint I have about co-op is one that I had with single player: each chapter is too long. You will need to spend up to two hours on a single chapter and you can’t load from a checkpoint if you turn the game off, which is quite the commitment. Expect to see people step out on you if you’re playing co-op and make sure to clear your schedule when you play this game.
Agent Hunt is another game aspect that feels like it was ripped off from Left 4 Dead. In it, you can take the form of a monster from the chapter a player is going through and try to kill them. This mode COULD have been fun, it SHOULD have been fun… but it’s not. For one thing, there is no reward for killing a player outside of a score; you don’t even get skill points. In fact, you have to pay skill points to upgrade your stats so your monster won’t get taken out by one clip of bullets. Additionally, the monsters control terribly and you have no choice over what monster you get to use. For example, the only monster that is really fun to play is the Ja’vo since they control the closest to the main characters and even have a chance to mutate or change into a greater monster, but you’ll rarely ever get a chance to play as one. In short, this mode is a wasted opportunity.
So, is there anything good about this game? Well, yes. The final campaign and Leon’s adventure are actually pretty solid. The last campaign has some fun puzzles, the only good vehicle segment, a pretty cool boss, and some stealth sections that are pretty fun. Leon’s campaign also is the only one that has actual zombies and, aside from some parts feeling like a lost level from Left 4 Dead, these parts of the campaign are really effective. Unfortunately, both of them still suffer from bad writing and Leon’s campaign goes on for far too long. So in the end, only about a fourth of the game is any good.
Overall, this game feels like it was killed by committee. A lot of the modes and encounters felt like they were put in because a marketing team wanted to shove in whatever it thought was popular. Bosses feel like they are retreads from past games (I didn’t even mention the chainsaw enemy that shows up out of nowhere) and more than a few sections of the game feel like they were taken from other games, with Left 4 Dead being the one that gets the most “homages.” The worst part is, that despite having lots of content, the game would benefit by having whole chunks of it (including Chris’s entire campaign) cut out. This game is an unfocused mess that sacrificed any trace of scares for some extremely sub-par shooting action. If you must play this game, rent it, shake your head in disgust and return it, knowing that it will take a miracle to make this franchise good again.
This game was purchased for review and played on the Xbox 360 to completion in about 30 hours, with an additional 3 hours spent on multiplayer. The game is also available on the PS3 and will be released for the PC in the future.
oh yes i believe i forgot about the files… when i beat the game on pro i was trying to find out what the fuck was with all the unexplained shit in the game and i even started looking up fan forums (that did not become helpful)
then i found out… capcom was to lazy to put files around the maps to explain the small things… NO NO NO!!! they rendered files that can have up to 40 pages for one file! so sets see do the math there is like 10 of these files soup to 400 pages of unexplained bullshit! no capcom just no! that is fucking bull shit and you know it! that was the nail in the coffin and the insurance buckshot was going up that games ass!
i stopped when i got to jills file and they explained why wesker did not try to kill jill because he did inject her with oroborus and it mixed with the t-virus and made her superhuman so that gave wesker the idea to make a superhuman army… not joking, who can like this shit? and why didn’t wesker just kill jill instead of wasting the time of building that mind control device instead of using a pointless mercenary or someone with actual martial arts training and spec ops experience than just a chick cop that survived a zombie apocalypse.

and i loved resident evil 4 it had limited ammo and health items and had the bare minimum of weapons with at least two of each type but i digress resident evil 5 was horrible and bad in every way except the +’s where gameplay could be fun and a good variety of weapons and graphics, 2/10 and that is being nice.
mainly because it is riddled with boring co-op action sequences and DREADFULLY HORRIFYING TURRET SECTIONS!!! just thinking of such boring terror of shooting black people of bikes almost makes me commit suicide.
the ending is good and bad for one, the game is over and that annoying twat they turned wesker into died, and bad because it ends exactly the same as re4 except even more cheesier because it ends on a monolog, and that racist theme music… OH! that reminds me the theme is cheesy, predictable, unoriginal, and boring…
mercenaries is great and i did find it enjoyable but the putrid controls ruin a lot of it…
the collectables are fucking dumb, because i wasted all my time getting them and when i got the chris collectable rare and it was stars and i had a fangasm (but it was ruined when i found out it was the roided up chris with a different suit… LAZY!!!) and i wanted to get the jill one and what was it? THE FUCKING BSAA VERSION!!! what the fuck capcom you were trying to piss off every single fan you had didn’t you?!?!
by this time i gave up i was going to throw it away but then i heard about classic characters being DLC in mercenaries and lost in nightmares and i was excited… a counted the days till i could buy it and the trailer with moonlight sonata playing made me fangasm again… then i played, WHY! i wasted ten bucks on that lazy boring pile of putrid anal leakage!?!? why was capcom being such stubborn assholes with putting zombies in it? really? did they think people would complain if they did have zombies? i have a hard time seeing that happening.
and mercenaries reunion was good i guess nothing special but it was awful like L.I.N, then desperate escape was announced and i didn’t care but i bought it just in case they fixed jills writing… they didn’t… it was ok it was just as generic and boring as the rest of this piece of shit so yeah… after that i took the game into the middle of nowhere and shot it to shit with a shotgun
so i find any complaint you have with this game minor and you are bitching about the dumbest shit especially considering a lot of this shit can be avoided (you can turn off most of the QTE’s)
and shut the fuck up about jake’s boss ustanak resident evil 3 did the exact same goddamn thing, i agree chris’s was weak but at least he was more human and you said Chris is an utter douchebag filled with RIGHTEOUS ANGER… “slaps forehead” umm when your entire team of teenagers are brutally eaten alive or mutated… you might have a slight attitude problem “whispers fagget” and so a tough military type doing whatever he can to save his men and taking revenge is atrocious but a whining boring monologuing pussy and a steroid using incompetent wimp who only cares about himself oh that is golden and perfect!!! you disgust me as a reviewer…
RESIDENT EVIL 5 is the worst big game blockbuster i have ever played in my fucking life!!! i do not see why everyone has a hard on for RE5…
let me look at the problems of RE5, the story is fucking HORRIBLE! i felt more engaged in a care bears movie. the plot starts off pretty good dealing with a more military driven aspect of things but the plot is lame… wesker turned into a mono logging pussy that cannot even have the balls to kill one chick (jill) seriously? yes i know why they explain but it is sooo half assed! i will get to that in a second but really? James bond villains are not as over the top as wesker in this game, “WHAT!?! NO HE ISN’T WESKER IS THE BEST PERSON EVER APLOLPLO:PLPOPLPOLPPOALPSODL”
the plot is basically Wesker the person who has juggled global espionage for more than 6 years all over the world… has been working on a virus to take over the world because he is crazy…
WTF!!! for one, how can he be smart enough to pull all this shit off and not get marked as a international enemy? second why would wesker do this? he saw what a virus injected into you can do to you because of alexia, unless he was infected before that, than why the the fuck did it take him so fucking long to do this? he was being a dumbass and injected himself with oroborus to be a superhuman. huh… doesn’t that sound like the plot of the terrible piece of shit live action movies!!!
now let’s discuss chris… he is an annoying steroid using incompetent dumbass who cannot figure out 2+2… SERIOUSLY!!! chris was my favorite character in resident evil and in code veronica he tracked down a remote top secret island climbed up a cliff and fought off an entire complex fulll of zombies and monsters just to find his sister and in this he gets his ass constantly handed to him to find his missing partner… wahoo. and besides the fact he would be dishonorably discharged for going off mission for a lead you are not sure even exists, yeah what a hero and when did chris and jill become love interests? do not deny it they where not subtle in anyway with it…
sheva, is a pointless annoying twit who’s A.I is physically BROKEN when the dumbass does not even mix herbs or ammo boxes… really? ashley was more important/useful at least she had the common sense to duck when you point a fucking shotgun at their head. also the dynamic between her and chris is weak, does he save her life, no, does he help her through a hard time, is he understanding to her emotional weight? no, so… WHY THE FUCK DOES SHE GO OFF MISSION WITH HIM!!! and you know checking in with HQ telling them Every squad and team they sent in got brutally slaughtered might be some critical information…
Jill… is boring and cliche love interest when she con come with them to find wesker to double their odds… NO! NO! she tells them to leave her behind then we spend most of this fucking game trying to find her!!! and se does not do a fucking thing in this entire game. that is all.
i could talk about the other characters but they just blend with the backround until their story is done so that is about it… oh and by the way… i only covered to things in this entire segment plot and writing so yeah i could write a novel on how much i despise that game! and dumbass that is el gigante infected with the c virus… pay fucking attention!
” you can keep reading, but I don’t think we should waste anymore time”
fair enough. that was your opinion, now here’s mine. after reading your review i couldn’t help but feel like you’re on the typical bandwagon “they changed it now it sux” in my opinion this was a very good game and it had a very good story, i can agree with you on the QTE’s but the gameplay was nice I’ve grown to like the new controls and i hope they use them in the future.
i cant figure out why people are saying stuff like “the horror to be practically nonexistent” tell me what is so scary about resident evil, why are people saying its not like the old games. what was scary about the old games were the controls if i had to run it was practically out of the question, it was like i was turning on one foot. I’ve said if resident evil 1-3 and silent hill controls it would’ve been a better experience. I’ve asked this over on sage’s review (refer to my response on Detis) no one could give me an answer so i figured people were wearing their nostalgia goggles.
Resident Evil games where scary because they are designed to stress you out. Scripted jump scares aside, the gameplay is designed around limitations; walking into a corridor filled with zombies and your only armed with a handgun with 15 bullets and a green herb is what made RE terrifying, and limited saves, while can be mundane added more to the tension.
That is what’s so great about RE, it doesn’t empower you, it doesn’t force you to kill every zombie or kill XX many to progress, it forced you take risks, to evade the undead for the sake of saving supplies. That is the RE experience for me.
Not a good year for the RE brand.
RE6 sold way better than RE5, so financially… it’s a good one.
And incidentally… Operation Raccoon City sold pretty good in Japan. Let’s hope that one doesn’t get a sequel.
and more creatively bankrupt RE games will follow l guess.
Hopefully they’ll get better.
And RE6 > RE5 IMHO.
Capcom is a mad scientist and Resident Evil 6 is their Frankenstein’s monster. Taking every spare part they could steal from popular games and crudely stitching them together into one big monstrosity; uncaring if parts were mismatched or served no real purpose. Their creation desperately wanting to be loved and accepted by everyone even as it lumbers around failing to do anything right; leaving only destruction and anger in its wake. Ultimately lacking any soul of its own or purpose in this world, just a mockery of what it was trying to imitate. Doomed to be chased down and burned alive by an angry mob wielding pitchforks and torches. Happy Halloween.
I have only played the demo so far, and I kinda sorta liked it. Leon’s campaign is the best. The other two had some issues that could be fixed with an update patch.
1) Improve the cover system. It is bogged down by unnecessarily complex controls.
2)Include an OPTION to remove most of the QTE’s in the game, such as the ones in cutscenes, and the climbing ones, and leave only the ones that are necessary, such as the ones for finishing or escaping enemies.
3)Increase the range of Jake’s [Hand-to-Hand] combat option (not the regular melee). I can’t be the only one who couldn’t use them succesfully on an enemy even once.
4)Add tutorials for some of the important functions, such as the ones mentioned in the above review. Don’t hold our hand throughout the game, but these things should be explained at least once.
5)Improve enemy A.I. in Chris’s and Jake’s campaigns. If they use machine guns and other long range weapons, then they should also use cover properly, instead of just running right in front of the player where they can easily be meleed.
Like I said, most of these issues can be resolved if Capcom releases a patch addressing them.
P.S. I disagree with Sage about the zombies wielding machine guns, since they aren’t supposed to be zombies. Zombies are only one kind of B.O.W, useful for a suprise attack. These B.O.Ws (Ja’vo) are better for forming an army, since they can use weapons, co-ordinate attacks, and are generally easier to control.
You can turn off QTE’s by using Amateur mode. Also, the enemy AI is not supposed to be smart. They use the quantity over quality method. There is also a free newer difficulty mode coming via DLC that should hopefully make it harder if that’s what you want.
http://kotaku.com/5056008/does-survival-horror-really-still-exist
This article best explains the dominance of American horror over Japanese horror.
It’s funny how that article disregarded the indie sector of acclaimed survival horror games (Amnesia, Lone survivor etc.) Their shouldn’t be a line between what defines a western built horror game and what defines an eastern built one. Their are many western & eastern survival horror games that follow the same experience of fear(Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, Cursed Mountain, Condemned, Deadly Premonition etc.)
Their are always other games out there guys, just stop buying Resident Evil games and move on, its that simple.
I never thought I’d say this but Ithiink that capcom would do well to recall the game give It a few more months of quality assurence and adressing the issues that have been brought up by both reviewers and fans. Now heres where this gets complicated: what does artistic integrity mean in the gaming world, gaming is an art form unlike any other before it as the audience is directly affecting what happens in a game, should a medium such as this have the same standards as other mediums when such mediums are so drastically different?
While one could claim the story is shielded by artistic integrity I don’t think it can shield things like bad controls during vehicle sections or tedious QTE climbing, that’s just technical incompetency and not understanding what you should or shouldn’t put in video games. You can’t take Steel Batalion and say “Oh the Kinect keeps thinking I want to close the blast shield when I’m just trying to look through the viewport, that’s an interesting artistic choice to make”
How can the game being long be a con? (Update from Sage’s review comment: Finished Leon’s and Chris’ campaign and it is still amazing. Screw the haters, I’m lovin’ every second of this game!)
Ditto. In fact, I am amazed at how much hate someone can get for not hating the same thing other people hate. It’s almost comical.
Well, I’ll still try this game to see whether it’s really that bad…once it’s available used and in the bargain bin.
Oh this’ll get ugly.
One thing about the QTEs:
Always, ALWAYS hated them. Not in general, but especially in the way Capcom made use of them.
And that was also my biggest complaint in RE4. Most QTE’s just felt cheap, because the buttons kept changing over and over and over. Yeah, only between two combinations (L1+R1, Circle+X), but still: It was tedious. And it didn’t help much that they didn’t improve it in RE5.
Entering RE6….
When I played the demo in Leon’s campaign and came to the part with the car, my jaw dropped to the floor. My thoughts: They didn’t just do that. It can’t be…
But they did. And I still can’t believe it.
A QTE to look for a key, start the car and drive? Are you fucking MAD?!!
I played many games with QTEs in my life, but that right there…I felt honestly offended as a gamer.
What i hate most about that “looking for the keys” event is that it is clearly scripted. My first instinct was to check overhead (oldest carjacking cliche) but it won’t let you until after checking the glovebox first. Not only is it brainless but it makes you sit through the whole thing every time.
I really don’t see how people can see this as a good game. I respect their opinions and I’m happy that they enjoy this, but I truthfully cannot see how they can like something like this. I mean, I even liked RE5 and I hate this game.
Screw whether this is a Resident Evil game or not, I don’t even care about all of this “betrayal” crap at all because in the end it doesn’t even matter. I don’t care whether or not it’s like the earlier Resident Evil games. As a game itself, this game is bad. Truly bad.
At the first three chapters of Leon’s campaign I was kinda’ digging it and it seemed fun. After chapter four however, it got really repetitive (The bosses just WOULD. NOT. DIE.) and it just made me want to quit playing. Playing the other campaigns felt like work and made me actually feel like as though my life was slowly slipping away. You might think that I’m BSing about that. I’M NOT. I seriously felt my life slipping away. This game is not fun to play at all.
It would seem as though RE6 Producer Hiroyuki Kabayashi has responded to the criticism.
“The way I always think of it is that if Resident Evil represents a child, then the fans and us as creators are the two parents. The resulting games are like the children that are born between both of us,” Kobayashi said. “And just like real parents, you’re not always going to agree on what is best for raising that child.”
Kobayashi added that Capcom always attempts to take fan feedback into account when deciding how to advance the series. But ultimately, developers must think on their own, or progress will come to a halt, he said.
“It’s our job to create a new gaming experience and to offer them something that’s fresh and challenging. We want to make sure that what we do pleases them, but the initial reaction might not always be positive,” he said. “We do listen to the fans, but we can’t be beholden to them at every turn or I don’t think we’ll ever make progress in terms of the series’ development.”

Why can’t every game developer take heed to this sort of thinking when having to deal with bitchy gamers who feel like a single game killed the franchise? It’s like Mass Effect 3 all over again, and thanks to that the founders of Bioware have retired from the company.
And yeah, you can imagine I’m on Bird-mans side~
Considering how mediocre this game turns out (to say the least), I doubt that game developers will follow suit.
You say that calling betrayal on this game is being bitchy? Then I ask you this, if you won’t be having any of the things that gave the franchise its own feel and spirit, why even call it Resident Evil? Hell, I’d settle for it being an offshoot, like what they’re doing with the Silent Hill Vita game or the Lara Croft top down shooter (forget its full name).
The only reason this is a main part of the RE franchise is that people will pay money for it, if it turns out good then people will overlook it, but when it doesn’t, prepare to get told that you done fucked up good.
If the creators belive it is a Resident Evil game, then it likely is, since they bloody made the god damn franchise. And it still holds one of the main core elements of Resident Evil, zombies and monsters made from Bio-Terrorism. Even if the gameplay is drastically different, core aspecst still remain.
And gee, it’s almost as if your describing the entire video game industry in a nutshell. Fanboys often forget it’s a business, and if many people keep on buying it, they keep making it. If you want to blame somebody for betraying Resident Evil, you only have to look in the mirror, i.e., the gamer. Gamers keep buying it, and therefore keep making it live.
Plus, I would have the sneaky suspicion Capcom would have likely gotten bitching and whining from gamers if they had changed nothing gameplay wise from the original games.
Mikami and his studio made the franchise and they jumped ship after RE4, the director of RE6 was never involved in the series before. The series can evolve like RE4 did to tank controls but RE6 didn’t progress the franchise, it made it lose its identity. With the high budget and high sales expectations, the devs are afraid to create their own initiative gaming experience and tried to appeal to everyone by throwing in elements and aesthetics from other games, all because of marketing statistics.
To have Capcom kill and bury the series roots as the poster-child of Survival Horror for that is just pathetic and cowardly.
Wow, you really don’t know a lot bout video-game history, Resident Evil -as much of a great game it is- is not the poster-child of survival horror. That title goes to the original survival horrors like Darkseed, Alone in the Dark, Clock Tower, System Shock, and let’s not forget the inspiration and having the most influence; Sweet Home.
I am really getting sick and tired of hearing gamers proclaiming game makers and companies betraying they’re games and killing it, and raping they’re childhoods with these new games. No wonder the doctors of Bioware decided to retire after the shitstorm over Mass Effect 3.
I recently just finished playing all four campaigns and I cannot comprehend at all what people like Harvey see in this game. Just poorly designed and unpolished in every respect. Rent it if you must but for the love of god do not buy it.
In other words, you’ll take whatever you can get and say it’s great.
It’s called having an opinion dumbass. I am enjoying the game and as a RE fan I think it’s a good edition to the series, and if you think that is a betrayal, then take your whining somewhere else and shove it up your arse for all I care.
Where did you get that from? I didn’t say Resident Evil “pioneered” survival horror, l am well aware of games like Sweet Home, Clock Tower and Alone in the Dark pre-dating RE. Resident Evil is the poster-child of Survival horror because that’s the series that came up with the name of the genre in the first place and marketed it, RE helped those games find its identity.
I won’t argue with that, as Resident Evil did do all that. But we need to be realistic here, Capcom is gearing Resident Evil towards a more western audience now since that’s where all the fans live. Game companies only make crap if the gamers keep buying the crap, so you should only blame the gamers for buying this “Dreck”, not Capcom.
more like the creators being an alcoholic father and us the fans being the abused housewife who try to protect the our child RE from the abuse of the father over money issues.
Are you seriously comparing domestic violence to this spat?
That is just unbelievably pathetic.
Why should l blame the gamers? Capcom are the ones that decided to have no faith in survival horror because it has a “small market” that is a bullshit excuse. You don’t see SCE Japan Studio dumbing down the Siren series for the casuals, and Amensia is a million selling indie game. If Capcom are that afraid of losing money then why don’t they make a new IP instead of turning RE into an action series… oh that’s right, brand recognition.
Resident Evil is just too big for its own good right now with having ridiculously high development budgets and more investors backing the franchise, the devs are forced to appeal to every gamer out their for the hope that they can break even in sales. This is how bad AAA gaming is these days.
People act like this was the game to ruin the franchise. Did we all forget how god awful 5 was? This at least has a few more interesting elements thrown in, but the series was dead after 4.
It hasn’t got to do with expecting RE6 to be survival horror, l am pretty sure many fans and critics gave up that expectation months ago. It’s because RE6 is unfocused as a Third-Person Shooter. You had 600 people working on this game and what you ended up with is a strange, mediocre pastiche of the better games this series once inspired (e.g Dead Space, GoW)
The only thing that is survival horror is Capcom, they are afraid to take risks and rather develop games based on marketing statistics.
I’m with BirdMan on this one. It’s a great game and why people need to go out of their way to rate it down surprises me to no end.
It’s like all of them were promised “the survival Horror of their dreams, yes we mean personally yours”
I mean Capcom flat out said, it’s “Dramatic Horror” so take it or leave it.
I think too much reviewers are just feeling kicked in the groin and they have only their own ungrounded expectations to blame for that.
I’m loving RE6, the shout-outs to so many small details from previous REs are still keeping me happy.
Also to all those saying “RE is BETRAYAL of it’s roots” I can say “At least it’s not what’s happening to Silent Hill”.
aside that you enjoyed the game that is perfectly understandable. but please tell us why is it a great game? I’m interested to hear your views because I’ve seen reviews that give plausible reasons why this game as an action shooter is not worth it and it’s overvalued. Also I don’t agree with most reviews that outright biasedly underrate this game, just saying.
He doesn’t have any real reasons. He just thinks its great cause IGN had a release party and its a game where he can shoot stuff. Really, that’s all a game needs these days, guns and IGN’s backing, and enough people will say it is a 10/10 game.. even if they haven’t played it.
Quite the dramatic stereotypization, don’t ya think?
I don’t read IGN, I happen to live in Russia, so the reviewers I read are here, Angry Joe and Russian mags.
And I am playing the game, thank you.
Why so adamant in your hate, Claymore-avatared friend?
On a side-note. Since you brought up DMC… I absolutely loathe the redesign, but as long as the gameplay is solid and it doesn’t become the dominant style (and Capcom is always going “Oh this is a alternate universe and Classic Dante is not over” so it probably won’t) I’ll give it a try.
Clearly you haven’t seen IGN’s review score for the game. 7.9. That’s pretty bad for a main RE game.
LOL, I love this mentality that states “you believe X, so you must be a blithering idiot because of Y.” It’s a logical fallacy (a hasty generalization, specifically), and it’s pretty narrow-minded to boot.
Chill, man. People are allowed to like things that you hate. That doesn’t make them simple-minded idiots. I’m sure the gaming industry hasn’t forgotten whatever it is your tastes are, as there are plenty of games that aren’t typical shooters. Why isn’t that enough?
Tell me what survival horror games have come out this generation that comes to the taste of those who like the old style of thinking and surviving instead of run and gun with scripted scenes and gameplay that holds your hand
The main industry is infested with games like this one, aside from the indies wich don’t get enough attention, there’s little to no games for survival horror fans to enjoy, and people would rather have them alienated instead of dealing with the negative feedback like they should
I must add… Rather sad that “everyone is allowed to like what others hate”, but oh god forbid anyone ever dares to talk trash or have the audacity of not liking a game (Some people even outright said they wanted to torture and murder the gamespot reviewer for giving the game a low score, others even wanted the guy to lose his job)
Resident Evil: Revelations
Silent Hill: Downpour
Whether or not you think these games were successful at recapturing old school survival horror, they did attempt it, meaning they haven’t forgotten about it. As a side note, I wasn’t really thinking of survival horror games specifically, I was more thinking of games that weren’t generic shooters (I thought that was clear). But there you go, survival horror games, just like you requested.
What people would rather have survival fans alienated? Who sits down and thinks the industry is better off sabotaged for the people who like niche genres? I’m sure there are a few sociopaths out there, but representative of “people?” I think you’re just playing the victim here.
I don’t remember claiming anyone having audacity to not liking a game, nor do I remember ever saying I wanted to torture and murder a gamespot reviewer, or hope he loses his job. I also don’t recall Shirokurou saying anything to the effect that you’re suggesting. I only remember directing my comment towards a single individual who relies on logical fallacies to attack someone.
He disagreed with the statement it was bad cause of “reasons” which he never gave. Actually, he also made a hasty generalization that everyone was mad cause it wasn’t survival horror anymore and it was just a groin-kicked fanbase. I, in turn, assumed those probable reasons were lowest common denominator appeal (guns, explosions, and brown) and big-number hype. I met a baseless generalization with a baseless generalization cause of… reasons!
Also, since I’m accused it a lot, I don’t hate shooters cause they’re shooters. In fact I’ve had a great deal of fun with some. I appreciate, I may not like, but I appreciate any game where you can tell there was effort, passion, or at least a desire to stand-out. RE6 is not one of those games. RE6 was made by marketing executives and accountants to be as safe and as appealing to every possible person as it could be. It is the poster-child for the death-grip stockholders have on creativity in AAA gaming these days. Though, The Jimquisition this week put it far better than I could, so I’ll just refer you to that.
What I hate how homogenized gaming is becoming, especially in the “action game” genre, which until RE5 no one would ever called RE an “action” series. I hate it more when it’s an established series gritting itself up for western appeal. DMC is doing this to. Instead of making a new series or even a spin-off, they’re just slapping existing names on this unrelated hack-and-slash because it has brand appeal and they think we’re too stupid to care. When I see all these threads that are “Well I don’t care as long as it’s good.” or “I played the demo and it’s good, have you?”, yeah, we don’t care, and if we don’t care why should they? Why should a series maintain any sense of individuality or recognizablility when there’s ways to give it broader appeal by cutting those pieces away. I ask, if this was an RE spin-off called, I don’t know, Resident Evil: Bio-wars, and sold to us for what it really is, a third person action-shooter, wouldn’t have all this bile been avoided and, hell, sales would probably be better to.
I also hate the idea that “I’m having fun with it = good/great/amazomg!” There’s nothing wrong with admitting you like a game but acknowledging its flaws, but we seem to exist in a culture where everything is regarded as worse than cancer or a glorious golden god from on-high, delivering us to the promised land. Of course, when anything worse than an 8.0 seems to be regarded as “mediocre” I can’t say I’m surprised that view is held.
Also, I’d say IGN’s score of 7.9 was very carefully constructed. It’s high enough not to really piss off Capcom but still below that 8.0 line to avoid being called the sell-outs that they are.
There now that I’ve written my bloody sociology thesis on gaming culture…
Quite the big posts you throw out about me, without even replying to me. I’m feeling a bit ignored.
I didn’t say “Oh the reviewers are butt-hurt, and action rules” – which would be a hasty generalization.
Also, the whole ”
“effort, passion, or at least a desire to stand-out.” Sensing effort and passion in a game is pretty subjective. The game sure had a lot of shout-outs and elements from the previous games, cause Capcom sure loves them. And they did go for the effort of supplying 4 campaigns which overlap at a few moments, but generally are different. It’s not a “grey corridor shooter” with copy-paste levels, which would obviously have lacked effort.
A desire to stand out? Well it certainly stands out of the previous Resident Evil games, with redesigned controls and more melee options. Vehicle sections which surprisingly are not all turret-based.
Homogenized gaming culture… That’s a staple. People have always mentioned it and there always be a perceived “homogeneous mass of the same game”. There never was a time when every game was original and there was no “most popular genre” that everyone looked up to as an example of “what sells”
Capcom released the sucky “Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City” which I couldn’t even bring myself to finish cause it was bad. And I can’t say RE6 is just as bad.
So please, go on. Let’s find some middle ground where we can see our views more clearly.
They basically refined the RE5 system.
You could say Operation Raccoon City was a test (incidentally I didn’t like it) and this is the final result.
The reasons I liked it were probably in the pacing and level design.
Reviewers might say that the pacing is Michael Bay-ish with set-pieces, but it’s pretty good.
And really it has 4 campaigns and so far I’ve beat 2 of them and working on the 3rd. And they feel big. Not the length of full games as Capcom said, but maybe half a game.
Also another reason I liked it as a Resident Evil fan are the small shout-outs it had. Mainly to RE2 or RE4 though were the ones I noticed.
here the are the issues that I’m going to give why this game is decent, not horribly bad nor great but decent.
Since it is an action 3rd person shooter game I’ll criticise it as such:
- QTE are not in general boring but when it is tedious and so many in the game, like Leon starting the car, that interupts the pace and that is bad especial for a game you want to run and shoot zombies and other things.
- AI partner is the main flaw in the game, sure the AI have improved since RE5, but since it is an action game you have to wait for your partner to get to the door which isn’t garenteed to be quick. that also interupts pace which is bad for action games
- the health system, mechanic or whatever you call it is not suitable for this game since you can’t quickly take a herb with low health bar while fighting, that makes it frustrating since it is an action game you expect a quick interface to keep the pace going.
I will offer my own take on your critique, not as an attack, but just to share my own two cents. I can tell you got your points from Bennett, btw:
-Yeah, I agree that they went overboard with QTE. I didn’t think they were too bad in RE4 and RE5 (though they did have a few hiccups), but RE6 takes it to a new level.
-I see this as a complete non-issue. I have only ever once had to wait for a partner AI to open a door (I played through each campaign twice), and even then, I never got killed because of it, nor did I see the pace broken. In fact, I would often see my AI partner run ahead of me to the door and wait for me while I’m still fighting zombies off. What an impatient ass.
-You can take an herb with a low health bar while fighting. You just press RB. Are you talking about how you have to prepare your herbs for consumption between battles? I don’t see why that design choice breaks the pace. You still can heal immediately in a fight.
A theme I’m seeing in your post is pace (in gameplay), and I really don’t think pace suffers. In fact, in an action game, you need brief periods of pause between battles to manage your ammo and inventory, which the game provides. I’d actually be upset if I couldn’t get a single chance to breathe and prepare myself for the next fight.
But anyway, that’s why those points (generally) don’t bring the game down for me.
Silent hill: Downpour is more survival horror than what Resident evil 6 could even be
The book of memories game, as awful as it looks, it at least is going to a handheld and not to a main console
But RE6 is a better game than Downpour.
Siren: Blood Curse is a better horror game than both of them, its the only AAA survival horror series that hasn’t lacked quality in this gen.
Better at holding your hand, better at giving you endless QTE, better at giving you broken animations for walking, better at giving you a corridor of scripted events, better at cheap-shotting you until you learn the pattern of this “haunted-house-MichaelBay-wannabe” game, better at not letting you play the game at any other way that isn’t the one the devs established
Played 2 hours of Leon’s campaign today, i felt so underwhelmed i actually had to play RE5 to feel better
Turn off the hug and auto-reload if you feel too hand-holded.
When was RE ever unscripted.
“haunted-house-MichaelBay-wannabe” I believe the word you’re looking for is “like Resident Evil since RE4″ and again, is that too bad a thing. Does giving it set-pieces making it worse by default?
“better at not letting you play the game at any other way that isn’t the one the devs established” – that one doesn’t even make sense. What game IS supposed to be played in a way the devs DIDN’T intend? Hm… I guess you could abuse the jump-glitch in Cheetahmen.
And if you like RE5, how can you not like RE6. I understand old-school fans going “betrayal!” at 4-5-6, but just 6?
-I set everything to what i felt comfortable with, and i still got my hand held, i called it a corridor of scripted events becuase i can do NOTHING, all i can do is move in a straight line from scripted point A to scripted point B.
-RE4 was linear, sure, but at least it let me explore and do things my way and actually complete the game at my own pace.
-RE6 changed the gameplay for nothing but set pieces and QTE while throwing corridor-like gameplay(Azura’s wrath did this, as a matter of fact, that’s what RE6 reminds me of)
-A dev can make a game in a way that the player can beat it in any way they want, while they do have set a “way it’s meant to be played” they also leave a chance open for the gamer to play it however they want, RE6 won’t let me do anything other than to follow the script, this is preety much why they compare this with Call of Duty
-I didn’t like RE going the action route, but at least the gameplay in RE5 was fun and it retained some of the freedom RE4 had, when i first played RE5, i was so satisfied with the gameplay i wanted to play again, with RE6 it feels more like i’m going to be playing 30 hours of artificial gameplay that feels more like a chore rather than a fun horror-action game
You can like the game if you want, it wont change the fact it feels like a frankenstein abomination made of CoD, Gears of War and Azura’s wrath to me
-RE is not a open world game. Even RE1 had a specific order in which it had to be played. It’s no GTA.
-I played RE4 quite recently and it’s THE SAME. You have some areas which you can sort of explore (the village and the swamp) but so did RE6 (the frozen plain flash drive hunt and Aircraft carrier interior). And by pace you mean… what exactly? Weapon customization? I did miss that a bit.
- It was like that since RE4 and it’s not 100% QTE and set-pieces.
- It’s not Skyrim or any RPG. You’re free to try and beat it with the “Knife only”, RE6 even has medals for that. I can’t see how this is even a valid criticism. I mean… no game is “play it however you want” it’s always a matter of pre-programmed options you can choose. And RE was never big on that.
- It’s a game about people with guns shooting zombies. It always was. And right now they just added more set-pieces, that may catch your attention. But RE4 had no freedom. And it didn’t need it.
That it won’t. But enjoy it for what it is, rather than thinking about “how it was” or “how it could have been”
-The first 3 games had the story and gameplay go depending on your own actions, it was never linear, rather sad that your idea of “non-linear” has to be a sandbox game, all 3 games had even multiple endings depending on your actions, branching paths, simple as that
-RE4 didn’t limit my actions with scripted events and even in the few set pieces it had i was in full control of the situation, the QTE were well implemented there where it would be only used at the right moments, RE6 is made of nothing but QTE and a bit of shooting here and there
-Choice, that’s the key word, many devs give you a set of options for you to choose and run with it, in RE6 you have absolutely no choice but to follow the script
-RE6 is people with guns engaging in shootouts with zombies with guns 3/4 of the game
-It’s hard to judge RE6 as an action game, because even in the action department it pales in comparison to other action games
In the end RE6 is a compliation of 4 average games that offer me nothing that i haven’t seen or played before, and if anything, it’s only good enough for a rental to play with friends here and there, but that’s just how i feel
Well the game sucks but does the collector edition have its place in your hardcorner ?
Sage goes off-script and on camera to come as close as he’s ever been to calling betrayal.
Birdman prepares to fight a deadly viral outbreak and uncover deadly conspiracy… so it must be Resident Evil again. Is this a game worthy of the Resident evil legacy?
Birdman prepares to fight a deadly viral outbreak and uncover deadly conspiracy… so it must be Resident Evil again. Is this a game worthy of the Resident evil legacy?
This went from my totally skeptical list, to possibly being my game of the show. The old Resident Evil is definitely back.
Now that we have a launch date and full trailer, it’s time to start speculating and begin ludacris rumors!
Music Mondays revisits the band that brought us tunes from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Bit.Trip Runner.
I thought they said that after SF X T that they would stop with the madness, but it goes to show that you can’t trust a company to own up to their promises.
Resident Evil 5 is the last game I will ever purchase from these jokers ever again.
They having nothing to offer me anyone since all of the series Capcom are in control of are either dying or dead.
Oh well at least there are other gaming companies such as Atlus,Platinum Games, and so on who still deliver on the goods and don’t shit on their fans.
Shame on everyone who continues to support terrible companies such as Capcom who put profit over their customers first.
those who have not bought RE6 may rejoice for they have not been seduced and tricked by Capcom’s foul and cheap business practice.
but we must not forget our fallen brother and sister gamers who have been betrayed by Capcom, obtaining RE6 with their hard their earned money. To them we give our condolences and pray Capcom’s DLC may not torture their gaming experience.
NOTE: I seriously feel sorry for anyone who bought RE6 but then have to hear about the DLCs and other crap they find in RE6.
I knew I made the right decision to avoid this game.
Are they serious? after SFxT being a serious flop due to their DLC practices (and don’t tell me that’s not why it didn’t sell well, IT SO IS, ask anyone who wanted to buy the game why they didn’t, that’s their answer) they do it again with their best selling franchise? You know what, I blame you gamers, you bring this upon yourselves for not speaking with your wallets, shame on you for buying RE6, SHAME.
Here’s my question, why do developers continue making incomplete or disc locked content when (mostly) Xbox 360 owners can easily unlock hidden/incomplete data?
Maybe they think most consumers won’t mind and will purchase the locked content as DLC anyway, or will wait for the inevitable “Special” Edition.
I remember ranting about those who complained about the SFxTK locked content and said I’d buy the characters, yet I still haven’t bought it for $20.
Does anything really need to be said other than “Crapcon gonna Crapcon”
Yes – you could also say Crapcom gunna Crapcom.
Because… you know… their name ends with m :p
Yes but Crapcon contains both “crap” and “con” so it’s like a triple entendre! Or is it quadruple?
Well this explains the whole “No more On-Disc DLC except for games that already are planned” part of that statement earlier this year. This and probably DmC will have some, gotta probably wait to Remember Me comes out if that promise will actually become true…
I’ll wait for videos of the maps before making a complete judgement on them. Although people who pre-ordered the game and got maps from said they download sizes were quite big, as in they weren’t Unlock Key size, you are actually downloading the map. so it’s incomplete dummy code, as in, planned but couldn’t be made before deadline (And from a business stand point… I can understand why they want to release out, to maximise on the Christmas Rush. Terrible practise which I’m glad Rayman Legends is pulling out, but this is the time of year you would get the most sales from.)
So Can’t really blame too much on Maps, I mean CoD, Halo and Battlefield always come out “Retro Map DLC Packs” early on, and you can’t really say they would be too hard to make. Wait for a Price Point announcement on them (Or gameplay of the maps, whichever comes first.)
As for the Difficulty? Erm… Dragons Dogma had an Easy and Hard mode Free DLC, maybe that will be free down the line?
At least this isn’t like SFxT where it’s characters that are critical to gameplay. This is more like that Mass Effect 3 having the From Ashes DLC on it. If like, a whole in-game campaign was on the disc, then I could be mad… but most of it is buggy placeholder stuff. I’d start complaining the moment the price for this comes out. Remember, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 had On Disc DLC, but they gave that for free. Lets see if Capcom releases this stuff for free… or If I’ll wait for the Gold Edition of the game instead. (I’m not really bothered about this game currently, I get Resi 5 Gold for free through PSN Plus this week anyway, If I want Resi, I’ll play that instead since I never have played a Resi game before.)
Sounds about right to me. Having incomplete data for modes that may or may not be added in full later is a far cry from having completed characters in a fighting game. It means that some work was done prior to the game going gold, but nothing was finished, ergo the content is genuine bonus content, not withheld content.
I don’t care about RE6 myself (I don’t like the horror genre in any medium), but I am definitely watching Capcom games for this stuff after the debacles with MvC3 and SFxT DLC. Good to know that this one is at least a partial positive step. Need more evidence to be sure whether Capcom’s actually changing their policies as they said, though.
I’de like to go off topic for a second and point out how it almost always seem that if there’s room for a Capcom debate Zevox and Killsteal_Wolf seem to always come out of the woodwork and sometimes butt heads with each other. I just found the presence of this dynamic to bring a smile to my face.
And to justify this comment, here’s my point of view:
I’m at the point where I have lost all faith in Capcom and I look at them with a level of anger and hurt far more than anything that I feel towards companies like EA and Activision, but that’s only because I used to love Capcom. With all that they have done to the Megaman series and with this new X-over debacle as well as all they’ve done to their Streetfighter franchise, I find myself unable to put any game under Capcom’s logo even into consideration for purchase. I looked at Dragon’s Dogma and I was impressed with it and I’m sure it’s a fine game, but I’m never going to buy it or any other Capcom game until they do something that would make me forgive them. Now hearing of this as well as watching Sage’s review, I have a feeling that the amount of people in my view towards Capcom is only going to grow until they make some serious changes. Although, it’s not as bad as it could have been, X-over alone proves that.
And as an excuse to vent a little about this and for the benefit of those who don’t know, X-over is Capcom’s 25th anniversary celebration for Megaman in the form of an iOS game that looks like a bad flash game with a feature called “auto-play” where you only have to hit the shoot button.
I expect within two to three months they’ll announce a (fool’s) Gold Edition that has all that DLC and more on it and it will cost $60
Geez if they really wanted to do all that multiplayer stuff why didn’t they just make Operation Raccoon City themselves and put it in there instead of handing it off to Slant Six?
