Developer Dave Rushton Fined, Imprisoned for a Year ,
Dave Rushton, game developer and founder of Sensory Sweep Studio, has been found guilty for failing to pay his former employees. Back in 2009, Rushton failed to pay one hundred employees for over one hundred days of work and even stole money from their 401(k)s. Luckily, Rushton was not able to get away with his plan and his former employees have received some measure of justice today.
Rushton, now 57, is being fined $1.2 million for the non-payment of wages, and has been sentenced to one year in jail in Utah for his actions. This is not Rushton’s first time in jail however, as he was sentenced to six months in jail back in 2010 for failing to file his taxes in 2006 and 2007 and sending in falsified W-2 forms in 2008 to get tax returns he hadn’t earned.
Sensory Sweep Studio is the team behind several games you may know, including the Xbox 360 port of Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects, Justice League Heroes, and the My (insert language here) Coach series. It is a terrible shame when hardworking members of the gaming industry are treated so poorly by their employer. We here at Blistered Thumbs wish the best for the members of Sensory Sweep Studio who were hurt by Mr. Rushton.
