“Darkstalkers Resurrection” brings Darkstalkers 2+3 to XBLA and PSN, Trailer Promises Challenge Mode, 9.0 out of 10 based on 2 ratings

Hello old friends!

It’s a good time to be a classic fighting game fan. Earlier this month, we got Marvel vs. Capcom: Origins, which brought back two arcade classics and now we are receiving a re-release of Capcom’s famous monster mash, Darkstalkers. Darkstalkers Resurrection, due out on XBLA and PSN early next year, will re-release The Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge and Darkstalkers III as a single package and will offer similar features to Streetfighter III: Third Strike Online Edition and Marvel vs. Capcom: Origins (improved online line matchmaking, ping display and lock, and YouTube replay upload).

Darkstalkers originally hit arcades in 1994 and created several classic Capcom characters, like Morrigan, Felicia, and Donovan. While I am excited about the release, it’s a shame that Capcom isn’t re-releasing the previously Japan-only game, Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection, which had ALL the games, as well as arranged versions of the Vampire Savior (Darkstalkers 3) games, including a new character. Still, it’ll be interesting to see how new players receive this game. Please share your thoughts in the comments below and keep following Blistered Thumbs for all the latest gaming news.

UPDATE: With the trailer now live, it seems that there will be unlockables as well as a challenge mode added to The Night Warriors and Darkstalkers 3.

Savior was the game that got me into fighters to begin with,
so while most of the FGC seems to be pissed at Capcom for this not being DS4, I’m all for this rerelease.

Capcom are just doing what they did with the hype around SFIV, re-releasing previous instalments (aka SFII:HD remix). Its pretty a good marketing tactic if you ask me.

I don’t know about this re-release. I already got Darkstalkers Chronicle: Choas Tower and for thoes that don’t know: that’s all Darkstalkers games in one collection with better features & modes.

I’m giving this a pass and wait for Darkstalkers 4 whenever that comes into existance.

Don’t know whether I’ll buy this, but I will certainly try the demo. I have the suspicion that, given these games’ age, they may feel too much like Street Fighter mechanically for me, though.

I hope this is Capcom’s way of testing the waters for an all-new Darkstalkers game.

Ahhh, how long has it been since I played as BB hood and Lilith? It’ll be nice to play as them again since I didn’t download the PS1 Classics.

Hey, if this is how Capcom wants to make sure fan interest is still high for this series, so be it.

Might wanna update the story header, it’s Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge, aka Darkstalkers 2 that is being included in this, so it’s not Darkstalkers 1+3, it’s Darkstalkers 2+3 we are getting.

Also, anyone thinking they may be using this to guage how much interest there is in the Darkstalkers series to see if it’s worth making a new Darkstalkers game?

Never played Darkstalkers before. Might pick this one up.
