Cliff Bleszinski Leaves Epic Games,
Today it was announced that Cliff Bleszinski, AKA Cliffy B, has left Epic Games after nearly two decades of working for the development studio. Mr. Bleszinski had been a force in the studio for some time, working on titles like Jazz Jackrabbit 1+2, the Unreal Tournament series, Tyrian, Shadow Complex, and, most famously, the Gears of War series, which he has been lead designer on, including the upcoming Gears of War: Judgement. The announcement was made on Epic Games’ website. Amidst well wishes from his peers, Mr. Blezinski gave his reason for leaving, namely, that he needed to take a break. An excerpt from his statement is below:
“I’ve been doing this since I was a teenager, and outside of my sabbatical last year, I have been going non-stop. I literally grew up in this business, as Mike likes to say. And now that I’m grown up, it’s time for a much needed break.
I will miss the projects, the playtests, the debates, and most importantly, the people. Epic only hires the best of the best, and it has been a joy working with each and every one of you on a daily basis, whether you were hired weeks ago or decades ago. I have been fortunate enough to collaborate with a variety of disciplines, from code to art to marketing and PR – it’s been one big, rewarding learning experience. I’m confident that each project that is being built, whether at Epic, Chair, PCF, or Impossible will be top notch and will please gamers and critics alike.”

I give this news an 8/10
Sorry, I couldn’t resist
If he hadn’t of made Jazz Jackrabbit I could care less about this man. But I still hate the direction Epic and he as developers are taking. And plus the wild CliffyB cry of “The scary pirates stole mah garm!” Maybe Epic can make a new game that doesn’t involve large men shooting guns at aliens.
Maybe he’ll “pop-in” on the offices to visit his friends from time to time ifyouknowwhatImean.
GREAT! Now if only David Jaffe would do the same and hopefully will never come back.
