Blizzard Entertainment Headhunting Zynga Layoffs,
In the wake of Zynga laying off 5% of it’s workforce and causing ripples across the casual gaming market, it would appear Blizzard Entertainment might well be looking to pick up some of the talent that was let go from the 13 canceled games. In a Linked-In mail that has now seen the light of day, one of Blizzard’s Talent Sourcers has submitted a request for the dismissed Zynga employees to submit resumes for over 100 positions that are available at Blizzard Entertainment with the included private e-mail address of the sourcer at Blizzard’s L.A. Campus.
As for what this could mean, it’s tough to know. Is Blizzard looking to integrate more casual or almost Facebook-like games and augments into their products? Will the next Starcraft 2 expansion automatically Tweet, Facebook post and Instagram pic my latest loss against the Korean Mega-Player I just faced? Will everyone’s new achievements in World of Warcraft get posted to Facebook the moment you earn them, along with posts to friends to come join a free trial? I truly hope that’s not the case… however, we do live in an awfully strange world to older-gamers such as myself.
Personally, I’m hoping they’re just looking for solid, hard working talent that they can fit into their company lifestyle who will easily adapt to their franchises… crossing fingers on this one. But, on a side note, I am however happy to see companies in the gaming industry looking out for those who work in the industry. Sure, it’s in their best interest to source the best talent possible, but it says a lot (for Corporate Policy and otherwise) for the gaming industry that they’ve always got their eyes open to the market.

They’re already implementing cash shops and pay-to-win mechanics, no surprise they’d reach out to people who specialize in making Skinner-Box, cash-grab games.
I’m sorry, but how exactly is purchasing overpriced mounts and mediocre pets “pay2win”?Do you even understand what pay 2 win is?
Well, I may not read a lot about other “industries” except for the gaming “industry” but it is not the first time I hear game developpers sending out e-mail of or “offers to hire” to employees that were recently laid off of their work place. But I have not heard of many companies in other “industries” that does so, it’s a good thing, maybe it’s just because of how the gaming industry is big atm & it may fade out but I hope it gives companies in other fields or “industries” the idea to do the same it’s at everyone advantages inmost cases .. On a side not I hope Blizzard isn’t trying to integrate more social aspects to their games … But, you know Facebook … Everyone has one, until this stupid fad fades out (if it does .. I sure hope it will) we stuck with social gaming … I guess … in some games, its not even a choice anymore …
Blizzard has been known to send out emails to recently laid off programmers and such. This is nothing new, a friend of mine got this same exact email a few months ago.
