Nobunaga’s Ambition & Pokemon crossing over and getting an American release? That was surprising. This? Not so much.

Confirming what had already been leaked up the wazoo over the weekend, the Angry Birds are indeed headed to a galaxy far, far yadda yadda yoda. Angry Birds Star Wars has been officially announced as coming to pretty much every mobile platform imaginable this November. The game will see the physics engine of the recent Angry Birds Space iteration of the series pressed into service in order to allow us all to live out the Avian vs Sith Lord fantasies that have so long driven the dreams and hopes of nerds and geeks everywhere.

A LucasArts rep was quick to make clear to USA Today (who ‘officially’ broke the story today) that “They are not Angry Birds dressed up as Star Wars characters, they are characters in their own right. They’ve just got personalities which are kind of similar.” So, yeah… Make of that what you will. And while you are coming to terms with the existential meaning of that statement, be sure to check out images from the (inevitable in terms of anything Star Wars related, or increasingly Angry Birds related as well if it comes to that) toy line and the teaser trailer in lieu of any actual gameplay footage/images below:

All joking and snark aside, I would be lying if I did not admit that I found this more than a little adorable. Not to mention that while the Angry Birds titles have not necessarily been the most original games ever created, they have all been well-made and legitimately fun at the very least. And I have little doubt that the same will ultimately be true about this latest game in the series as well. Angry Birds Star Wars will arrive for *deep breath* iOS, Android, Amazon Kindle Fire, Mac, PC (including Windows 8), and Windows Phone on November 8. Stay tuned to Blistered Thumbs for continuing coverage of the game, including a pending press event set to be held later today at Times Square, and be sure to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

I don’t understand why they’re making this. Star Wars and Angry Birds really have nothing in common besides being cash cows and the very loose theme of “space”, so besides the obvious answer of $$$, why would they cross over?

I just love how, as I’m thinking about the internal cohesion of two different franchises (Mortal Kombat and the DC Universe, respectively) and how I can wrap my head around certain scenarios within them, I see a crossover that I cannot wrap my head around, and the first line of this article (that is, the first picture caption) mentions a crossover that I could wrap my heard around.

In summary, I’m having a bit of a mind screw from reading the wrong thing at the wrong time. @_@
