25-in-25: A Fond Farewell to the Wii, 6.8 out of 10 based on 9 ratings

We have a tradition here at Blistered Thumbs. When one system is retired in favor of a shiny new successor we pay tribute to all of the great games made possible by that hardware. First, we eulogized the Nintendo DS. Then we gave all due respect to Sony’s PSP. Now we have set aside 25 days to talk about the best titles on gaming’s greatest underdog success story, the Wii.

Starting tomorrow and running up until the Wii U’s November 18th release, we will highlight one amazing entry in the Wii library every day. There really aren’t any hard and fast rules, but we’ll try to keep them exclusive and limit franchises to one representative. This means that you should check back with us at BT every day to see the new videos and articles we put together to form the next 25-in-25. And hey, the Wii U is backwards compatible, so you might even consider grabbing a few of these titles when Nintendo’s newest platform hits shelves.

This isn’t necessarily a list counting down the Top 25 Wii Games–rather, this is a collection of 25 games that defined Nintendo’s seventh-generation system. You might have your own personal favorites, and we thoroughly recommend you tell us about your own favorite titles and memories. We encourage our community to get involved in giving the Wii the proper send off it deserves!

Before you make this list, I urge you to run out, grab a copy of Opoona, and play the hell out of it.

It will then make this list, I believe. ;)

(I’m not joking, either! It’s still one of my favorite games on the system, along with Muramasa: The Demon Blade and The Last Story. It’s a startlingly underrated gem of an RPG that people just don’t take seriously because of its art style, but it’s honestly one of the best RPGs I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing.)

    Cool! ^ ^
I hope you’ll do some of the older system.

If you mean consoles from the sixth generation and earlier, that is not the case. The premise of these articles is to build up to the launch of the next console and reflect on what will now be known as “the previous system.”

Hell yes. I was expecting this today, so I’m glad it finally brought up. I’ll be looking forward to this.
