It plays great for the first couple of levels but ultimately beat-em-up syndrome catches up with it. It gets too tedious too fast for its own good. I remember finishing it but did so begrudgingly. Definitely not a classic though Joe is very endearing (thanks in no small part to his voice actor).

Viewtiful Joe was a very fun demo. It was one of the first PS2 games I demo’d. I never did get around to buying it when I finally got a PS2 but then again I was more into Wrestling games at the time.

I’m not gonna lie I got this game only because the main characters name is Joe, well it also helped that is got such a high score on Nintendo Power when it came out. Man, I played this game to death on Game Cube even though I wasn’t very good at it. All the other playable characters were like were like Dante’s voicing but at least the dialog is a bit different for when you play as Silvia, Blue or Alastor but I remember it wasn’t easy on my ears.

I really like this game, I have both games and haven’t played the second yet, as I haven’t beaten the first one yet as it is hard, I haven’t given up, I just need to get into that mood and clear some other games before tackling that again.

If you complete Viewtiful Joe on the harder difficulties you can also unlock Sexy Silvia, Alastor and Captain Blue.
I had unlocked Silvia and gotten pretty used to using her, but then the sequel changed her moves and SFX’s which often lead to me trying to do one thing and instead ending up getting hit… trice if I had the replay SFX going…

One of my favorite GCN games. In fact I enjoyed it so much it won out as my favorite game of 2003 over The Wind Waker and given that the Legend of Zelda is my all time favorite franchise, that says how much I liked it.

Really great game and a great throwback with some modern stuff thrown in and funny as well.

Too bad the franchise is pretty much dead outside of Joe’s occassional cameo appearance.

I think the reason being that the studio that made the Viewtiful Joe games doesn’t exist anymore. Still, Capcom could outsource to a different studio. Maybe one day he’ll make a comeback.
