Hmmmm… Now what could THIS image portend?

The long anticipated NiGHTS Into Dreams HD has finally been dated and priced for release in North America. NiGHTS will be arrive alongside another highly anticipated SEGA HD remake, Sonic Adventure 2 , on October 2 for PSN and October 5 on XBLA. Both titles will be priced at $9.99 and 800 Microsoft Points respectively. SEGA has stated that the PC version of NiGTHS has not been canceled but a release date for it cannot be confirmed at this time.

Sonic Adventure 2 will also see Battle Mode DLC released for it at a $3.00/240 Microsoft Points price tag. The DLC will contain various additional maps and characters taken from the much improved Gamecube version of the game. Even more exciting, the famous 1996 holiday-themed expansion for NiGHTS, Christmas NiGHTS, will be included free of charge with the KNiGHTS HD release. Originally produced for a bonus disc included with the Saturn holiday bundle released in 96 and subsequently released via a handful of special game and magazine promotions, this expansion features two remixed levels from the original game now rethemed for the holidays. It also includes a number of other bonuses and unlockables, including the ability to play as Sonic in a special mini-game version of a level.

On the one hand, I find myself rolling my eyes at the fact that not only is SEGA releasing paid DLC for an HD remix, but that said DLC consists of content originally developed for a previous rerelease of the game. It is not surprising mind you, SEGA basically pulled this exact same stunt back in 2010 with the rerelease of Sonic Adventure on XBLA and PSN, but it is disappointing to see all the same. Still, they are not charging for Christmas NiGHTS; that is something at least. Well in all fairness. If you buy the Battle DLC with the game you’re still paying the same as a $15 Downloadable game. I just see it as the option to spend less and buy the rest of the content later. Which is fine by me. Shame Sonic Adventure 2 was such a terrible game. It paled in comparison to Sonic Adventure. Less Shadow the better.
