That was unexpected. It appears that the Killer Instinct trademark has been “either renewed or refiled” by Microsoft, who purchased Rareware some time ago. KI, you may remember, is the fighting game best known for one thing:

Sweet, sweet combo breakers. This is literally the only news we have about the situation, as Xbox Live Arcade chose to break the news itself, rather than let the media stumble across the filings. This could just be a case of trying to protect intellectual property, a sign that the old game is getting a re-release, or it could be the harbinger of a downloadable revival of the cult classic. Is the world ready for another Killer Instinct?

    I would say the BEST case scenario is a release of the original arcade perfect KI on Xbox Live.

    Personally, I would have zero problem with this.
