Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix Gives Us Our First Look at the Series in HD Glory , 10.0 out of 10 based on 1 rating

Sorry, this trailer leaves me unable to snark right this sec. You will just have to insert your own.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix (wait a sec while I catch my breath from that handful of a name … … … OK all better) was first announced last week during the Tokyo Game Show 2012. And while there was apparently a trailer for this collection of graphically upgraded Kingdom Hearts games playing on the show floor, we here in internet land were sadly denied the pleasure of seeing it. Until now. And it does indeed look every bit as marvelous as longtime fans of the series had hoped for. But hey, do not just take my word for it… Check out said trailer below for yourselves.

Yes indeed, welcome to the world of HD and the PS3 Kingdom Hearts and may I say it is about time. Sure it is no Kingdom Hearts III but it will do in a pinch. Especially until that particular title finally graces us all with its presence, be it on PS3 or *sighs* even PS4 should development (which has yet to begin owing to that other seemingly eternally delayed Square Enix game) sadly require such an amount of time. And while the wait KH3 is indeed painful, I find comfort in the knowledge that the long desired and much wished for by many HD collection of the series has finally been announced.

Technically of course KHHD1.5R has yet to be confirmed for making its way outside of Japan, but as far as I am concerned that remains a mere formality. I suppose we shall see soon enough one way or the other. In the meantime, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix is currently announced for release in Japan sometime in 2013. Stay tuned to Blistered Thumbs for continuing coverage of the game and be sure to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

I know the chances of it happenning are like zero, but if KH HD had dual audio it’d be an instant buy for me :P

Argh! It’s not having Kingdom Hearts remade for the PS3 that irritates me. I want them to stop delaying things and just create KH 3 but I’ve gotten used to them dangling the possibility in front of us and then revealing it’s something else. What irritates me is that two of the three games are among the three Kingdom Heart games I dislike the most, 358/2 Days and Re: Chain of Memories.

Before the inevitable flames and ‘how DARE you dislike any of the games’ ensues let me clarify. I liked Chain of Memories’ story. It was a pretty good story. It not only set the stage for KH 2 but also introduced some very interesting characters (most of whom were killed off and never given any exploration in BBS or 358/2). However the card system was difficult to get used to and they had you running around worlds you already visited in Kingdom Hearts*.
As for 358/2 Days, all I can say is wasted potential. The panel system wasn’t fun (who on Earth wants their levels taking up inventory space unless they’re on a self-imposed challenge?), magic is quickly used up and the Nobodies didn’t get the exploration they deserved. As for Xion, Xion herself wasn’t that bad a character (and now the other side is going to hate me too), but she just really didn’t need to exist for the plot and they didn’t make her very interesting. To summarize, the only reason I don’t call it the worst of the series is because Re: Coded exists.

So yeah. I’d want to get the first game but I really don’t want to have to get the other two along with it.

OK you do realize it is only the cutscenes from Days that is included, right? Not the actual game? So the gameplay of that title is not really an issue.

Oh wow, it looks like they’re using the Ansem model from DDD. Either that or they’ve just upgraded it. Either way, I’m glad that they’re upgrading the models. Here’s hoping we don’t get too much of the poor mouth flaps, or fish mouth as it’s called, in this, which were especially noticeable in II and Birth by Sleep.

I wish they’d drop 358/2 Days and replace it with Kingdom Hearts 2.

Seems to me like this collection is supposed to cover the pre-KHII story (sans BBS). I actually wouldn’t mind even if Days turned out to be the entire game, it had some neat aspects like the panel system. Too bad it completely lacked in originality and variety due to the severe lack of unique worlds and mission types. Keeping my hands crossed for a second collection featuring KHII and BBS (especially BBS).

Check out 1:10 in the trailer and look closely at the command bar. The 4th command slot (used for opening chests, triggering switches, using save points, and using special commands like Strike Raid and Ars Arcanum) has been removed entirely, and a Reaction Command prompt has appeared in its place.

Seems it’s not just a straight-up port of KH1 Final Mix, but small enhancements have been made to make the controls a little easier.

Huh. How about that. I had not even noticed it but you are right. It is a little thing to be sure but it raises the specter of what other changes might have been made. Certainly such alterations could also explain why we have had to wait this long for the collection. And even if that is all there is, that is still something more than many HD collections bother with. Good catch.

Well, noticed another small change. The original PS2 version of Kingdom Hearts 1 Final Mix had used all English audio (the same audio heard in the international release of KH1). But it appears that for the HD version, the audio has been re-dubbed back into Japanese.

While this is easy to do if they just have the original audio source for KH1, there might be another reason for audio swapping the entire game. It might just mean that the game had new voice lines recorded for the audioless extra cutscenes KH1FM had that KH1 didn’t. Alternatively, it might just be to keep the language consistant with Re:Chain of Memories.
