Count Dracula’s five-stake resort welcomes you! Hotel Transylvania, where monsters and their families can live it up, free to be the monsters that they are with no humans around to bother them. Dracula’s beloved daughter Mavis is turning 118 and Dracula has invited a few of his closest friends: Frankenstein and his wife, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, and the Werewolf family to Hotel Transylvania to celebrate her special day. Catering to these monsters is a delight for Dracula, but everything could change for the overprotective father when one ordinary guy stumbles through the hotel and takes a shine to Mavis. Game features include: a wide variety of locations, puzzles and lots of boss battles. The game offers an imaginative and fun way to interact with the movie characters.

Hmmmm…. You know, this might just work.

Hotel Transylvania. The Game. Yes, yes, yes. This is a licensed game based off of an CGI animated kids movie. And normally such games are often not worth much at all but there are a few key points that help potentially separate this particular title from the pack. For one thing, the movie this game is based off is not just any CGI schlock but instead the directorial feature film debut of Genndy Tartakovsky the same man who gave us Samurai Jack and the much lamented and ended-far-far-too-soon Sym-Bionic Titan.

For another, the game itself is being developed by none other than Wayforward i.e. the same people working on the upcoming Adventure Time game and the just released Double Dragon Neon. That is a development team that in general knows what they are doing when it comes to 2D games which is exactly what Hotel Transylvania for the 3DS and DS are. Finally, the is a 2D Metroidvania style title, a type of game that has more than once allowed for quality movie licensed games to be produced.

I will also admit I do get kind of a kick out the fact that once again we have a Metroidvania game starting a child of Dracula, in this case his 118 year old daughter Mavis. She even appears to have some powers in common with a certain other child of Drac who you are no doubt familiar with. Its a cute touch overall. So before you completely write this game off, be sure to check out some screenshots and the launch trailer for Hotel Transylvania on 3DS below:

If this game plays as good as it looks and has the same consistent goodness that WayForward is quickly establishing itself as, I might actually check out that movie.
