Another post, another dose of Gamescom news. This time we have some new art and a trailer for Ninja Theory’s DmC: Devil May Cry, featuring Dante’s twin brother Vergil.
Unlike the antagonistic Vergil of the third game, this new demon slayer will be fighting alongside the main character as the leader of The Order, a mysterious organization dedicated to defeating the evil monsters unleashed upon the world. Of all the many alterations that this alternate continuity reboot has made, this might be one of the more controversial. Dante may have gotten a haircut, but Vergil doesn’t even seem to exist within the same realm as the character he shares a name with. I’m interested to see if anybody is willing to defend this new direction.
DmC will be available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on January 15th, 2013.

That’s not Vergil. That’s Draco Malfoy. Christ age wasn’t kind to him. He should be wearing green and black not blue and black.
And from the description given about this character, basically he’s doing Nero’s job. And really the Order?! Calling it generic is being too easy.
@Reikshiryo What you damn Ninja Theory apologists (heaven knows why you people exist) fail to realize is that there isn’t enough of your kind to justify the existence of this reboot. Did you forget that Capcom has stated that they want to sell 5 million copies? I sincerely doubt that this game will sell well or be received well. Did Dino Crisis 3 or Bionic Commando for the Xbox360/PS3 do either?
Enslaved had terrible combat so you claiming otherwise means that you don’t crap about amazing gameplay. Bloodrayne and other mediocre hack and slash games run circles around that trash. And also most gamers aren’t too fond of the idea of protecting defenseless broads. I didn’t enjoy it in Silent Hill 4. l sure as hell an not going to do it for an entire damn game. At least Resident Evil 4 gave you a break every and then from Ashely’s nonsense.
Wow one great game. Not impressed. Ion storm got lucky. I doubt the same will happen here.
Why should I even give this game a chance when Ninja Theory have done nothing to fix their tarnished reputation as a result of insulting and ignoring the fans. You have to earn my money and I will not reward assholes who think they are hot shit and don’t deserve being given a chance.
HA HA HA HA HA!
Okay, I’m not mad anymore. Now it’s just funny.
This game is gonna be hilarious. Ha ha ha.
Well, It’s set in an alternate universe, so “I AINT EVEN MAD!”, Capcom, not now, at least.
while i didn’t have much of a problem with dante’s new design something about this new vergil seems off.
Is it me or does Virgil look a bit like Michael Fassbender? I think his design seems very fitting for this DMC universe.
Well l am looking forward to the game, and i’m really interested by its story, at least l know l don’t have to deal with “some evil dude has obtained Sparda’s power…again.”
Well, at least his new look isn’t as bad as Dante’s. He looks more like something out Resident Evil than Devil May Cry, and the personality they seem to have given him is just about the opposite of the original, but he hasn’t gone from over-the-top badass to generic emo teen like his brother.
Honestly though, the little hints at the story here bug me more. Seems like they’re making it a pseudo-spy thriller, which is not exactly what comes to mind when I think of Devil May Cry, to put it mildly.
They just keep giving me more reasons to give up on the game as far as characters and story are concerned. The gameplay better make up for it, or else DMC2 may find itself with competition for the title of “worst Devil May Cry game.”
Already new about this design from my playtest of the game. I actually like Vergil’s characterization, although that’s due to my unfamiliarity with the series.
they didn’t change Dante being Vergil’s twin but in DMC3 they were rivals who fought each other over control of Sparda’s (their father) sword. They fought each because of their dysfunctional relationship since childhood. It was like Ying/Yang kind of relationship. In here Ninja Tehory threw out that special relationship to the bin.
I’ll defend it.
*ahem* This is not your game, this is capcom’s game and they can do whatever they want with it. If you don’t like what Ninja Theory are doing with this game then leave. Honestly why are you staying? Just go. No one cares if you stay. It means that those of us who are interested in this game can enjoy it without you all bitching about a redesign. Heaven forbid they touch your precious Dante and now your precious Virgil. Oh God how could they.
Now I understand why some people might be skeptical of Ninja Theory based on their previous games. But Enslaved was a fantastic game with really enjoyable combat. Great design and bloody interesting story to boot. Heavenly sword was mediocre let’s not forget that. But I think it would be unfair to hold a companies failing against them for the rest of their life. Let’s not forget that Ion storm made Daikatana and then made fucking Deus Ex.
But God damn it, just give this game a chance. I promise you, it will be good. Because if it isn’t, I will find Ninja Thoery and I will kill them. They know what’s at stake, I’ve already paid several snipers to watch them and shoot if the game is shit. Trust me. Okay that was an exaggeration but you get my point. I care about DMC as much as the next DMC fan but I’m willing to give new things a chance.
I can’t take an awful character redesign of witty arrogant guy who was still cool and not annoying to a tiny annoying kid who doesn’t shut the hell up.
“Defending” the game by basically telling people that they’re not allowed to complain about it is much dumber than you seem to think the people complaining about it are. Everyone is allowed to express their opinions on whatever they wish in any society with basic free speech protections, and it’s plenty valid for people to dislike drastic changes being done to a series and characters that they liked as they were. That’s just basic logic.
If you don’t like reading those opinions, it’s incumbent upon you to ignore them when you see them being expressed, not upon others to not express them.
it’s not just the design Ninja Theory did that offended the DMC fans. when the fans asked to change back the new design to the original design. Do you know what Ninja Theory reaction wa? they said they didn’t care! as in giving fans the middle finger.
The second thing is the gameplay mechanics. Ninja Theory criticised the previous dmc games for being so easily beatable with even just using guns which is bullshit. Another insult to the fans and DMC series. You can compare this game to DMC3, a PS2 game, and you can see a step backwards in gameplay mechanics.
Another thing Ninja Theory said in their previous trailers about their game is that the enviornemnt itself tries to kill you when you can plainly see it only changes the distance.
So after all Ninja Theory’s crap on DMC fans and your saying the fans are just bitching?! you need to do some research and stop listening to the biased views of Ninja Theory.
Im allowed to dislike the game, I’m allowed to complain about what Ninja Theory and crapcon are doing to a series I liked, and I’m allowed to not buy this game because of that. You are allowed to be an apologist fanboy, read my criticisms and complaints, buy the game and do the typical “zomgozors its’ 15/10 awesmome omg yoo tards who dint buy it r teh gay,” response to the people who complained, will complain. Then you are allowed to kiss my white backside cause my complaints are just as valid as your baseless defending.
To me, blind devotion is way more obnoxious than criticism. Your whole argument is “Stop bitching, its gonna be good cause I really hope it’s good.” Think you need to get some perspective cause, despite what your mom says, you are not the most important person in the world. You’re not even the post important person at the Burger King you dunk fries at.
Well only because we see him here as an ally doesn’t mean it’s going to play out like that in the game, he could just as well betray you over the course of the game. It’s really to early to tell.
