Kingception.

The Penny Arcade Expo is in full swing this weekend, and with that comes a torrent of new media. Sony’s indie experiment The Unfinished Swan was an E3 highlight for me, so I am glad to see it at this year’s PAX. Here is its official promotional trailer:

Emotional score? Check. Prepubescent main character? Check. Story and game mechanics as metaphors? Triple check. This is a modern indie game through and through. Whether that is a good thing or not depends on your preferences, but I’ll take another arty experiment over another shooter almost every day of the week (Not Tuesday though; Tuesday is Shooter Day).

The Unfinished Swan will be a PSN-exclusive, digitally downloadable title. We’ll let you know as soon as we have a firm release date.

    Not sure if the King’s statement about the boy in his dream is a reference to Oblivion… It’s definitely not a direct quote, but still…

      You mean Uriel Septim VII? If so, it is pretty obscure.

      Someone having a dream foretelling the coming of a hero is actually a pretty common paradigm in fantasy literature and media. I seriously doubt it’s a direct reference; it’s more likely just following the same trope.

        Also, the king looks more like Prince Phillionel El di Seyruun.

          Nice obscure reference. Slayers is one of my favorite anime.

            I wonder if he’ll teach you the “PACIFIST CRUUUUUSH!” or the “KINDNESS TO ALL CREATURES KIIIIICK!!”

    He kept the Unfinished Swan? He should have took the picture with the bats! That’s what Bruce Wayne would have done. :{
