At its core, Star Wars has always been, and always will be, a franchise that harkens back to the spirit and tone of the serials of yore. Indeed, that is an aspect of the series I have always enjoyed and I would never want for it to go away completely either. That being said, I also think Star Wars is robust enough that it can take sojourns into darker and relatively more mature material (and by mature I do not mean just shoving tits and gore into something and calling a day either *coughs* GodofWar *coughs*) and come out the other side intact. The brilliant Clone Wars TV series, for example, has demonstrated just as much with episodes that go to some very dark places indeed. And if a television show that airs in prime-time on Cartoon Network can accomplish as much, just imagine what an M-rated video game can do. And that is just one reason why I am really looking forward to Star Wars 1313.
Another is that the game just seems like such a departure from what has become the norm for the franchise on the video game front lately (especially in terms of non-BioWare produced titles). I think its heartening that LucasArts is prepared to take a chance on a Star Wars game by really shaking up just what that means and entails. So yes, Star Wars 1313 is very high on my radar of upcoming games and I think it should be the same for all of you as well. But you don’t have to take my word for it, check out the latest look at the game, this time examining the titular Level 1313 itself, below and judge for yourselves.
Star Wars 1313 will be released on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC and does not have a confirmed release window at this time. Though considering the title, I would wager sometime in 2013 and on the 13th day of a month would be a good guess. Stay tuned to Blistered Thumbs for continuing coverage of the game and be sure to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.
