Game journalism problem #23097: Handheld screenshots.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified and Killzone: Mercenary aren’t surprising additions to the PS Vita’s little library, but they are getting quite the royal treatment from Sony. During their Gamescom conference the handheld got quite a bit of attention for its potential as a mobile first-person shooter device, with some snazzy new footage to back that claim up. Check them out below.

Killzone: Mercenary:

Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified is scheduled for a November 2012 release, while Killzone: Mercenary is slated for sometime in 2013. Both games are PS Vita exclusive.

I wonder how valid multiplayer is for a handheld, even one with 3G. I’ve only ever used my PSP’s ad hoc or wifi abilities once or twice, and somehow I doubt a 3G contract changes that too much. A port of an already popular MMO I could see working “in the cracks” like portables do, but I always imagine FPS’s on a portable being single player campaigns, perhaps with some ad hoc cooperative abilities.

Well I hate basically all military FPS games, so I won’t be buying either of these – but I think they are still important additions to the PSVITA library. It does a good job showcasing the fact that VITA can handle these games due to the graphics power, and controls (dual analog.)
