Ever since it was released for Xbox 360 and PS3, the Silent Hill HD Collection has been plagued by problems almost as disturbing as the various monsters that inhabit the fictional town itself. These have included severe frame rate drops, various graphical glitches, sound loops, other audio glitches, and reduced transparencies of fog, glass, etc. Additionally the PS3 version of the game has also suffered from erratically changing walking speeds that can make the game unplayable at worst and the game running before loading screens have cleared which in turn can cut off portions of cutscenes or leave players vulnerable to enemy attack. Now almost five months later Konami has finally released a patch that will clear up all these problems for players. Provided they have the PS3 version of the game of course.
That is because while the PS3 patch is now live, it turns out that Konami has decided to cancel the 360 version of this patch owing to what they describe as “technical issues and resources”. And if your eyebrows go up at that, then you are not alone. Konami’s full press statement on the decision follows:
Today, Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. announced that while a PlayStation®3 online title update for Silent Hill HD Collection has been deployed for download via PlayStation®Network, plans for an XBOX®360 title update have been cancelled due to technical issues and resources.
Understanding the issues some users are experiencing, KONAMI issued a title update for Silent Hill HD Collection (PS3), which fixed frame rate issues as well as audio-synching and other reported issues. KONAMI apologizes to any players who are continuing to experience these issues on the XBOX 360 sku.
Since Konami has not chosen to release any in the way of real specifics regarding what has motivated this perplexing decision, speculating on who and/or what is truly responsible for this mess is perilous at best. However there is no question that this is certainly a bum deal for 360 owners who have purchased the game and one which is likely to lead to further outcry and problems for both Konami and Microsoft in the immediate future. And considering the recent controversy surrounding game patches on the Xbox 360, that is exactly the last thing Microsoft can want to occur. If nothing else it should be interesting to see if this story continues to develop any further in the days ahead; I would not be surprised if this is not the last we hear of iy. Stay tuned to Blistered Thumbs for continuing coverage of any developments that might occur and be sure to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

Silent Hill 3 didn’t belong on the xbox in the first place.
yeah, how dare they try and get more people to play SH3…
Anyone remember back when Japanese game companies/developers were #1? … seems like a long ass time ago. Capcom i still the most despicable in my opinion (seriously, fuck you Capcom), but it looks like Konami is bumping for that slot here.
Seriously, what the hell happened to the Japanese game industry? Its such shit now, and the companies just keep screwing the few fans they have left over left and right. I dont get it
Maybe they just don’t give a crap about the west anymore. Personally, I don’t blame them.
Disgusting – both the shoddy state of the conversions in the first place, and now their baffling decision to leave half of their customers with a broken product. It shouldn’t be allowed, we have consumer groups for a reason…Konami should be held accountable for this. You don’t just get to fleece customers by releasing a shoddy product and doing nothing to rectify it.
I hope they are sued, or forced to give refunds to ALL owners of the 360 version. I’m sick of publishers thinking they can get away with treating their customers like dirt.
the problem is customers just keep taking it. People cried foul when Capcom did that DLC BS with SFxTekken.. but guess what? They still bought the game and the DLC. THe only way we can really say screw you to these guys is to just stop buying their broken, shoddy, rip off games
At least Capcom have responded to the DLC complaints and considering to change their business practices. what Konami has done with the SH HD collection is just obscene. Konami couldn’t find the original source codes for the games so they dumped unfinished code on the team dealing with the port, and what we soon get is a buggy mess. Problems of production should never be allowed to become problems that are passed onto paying customers.
EA does this constantly: No one cares, and people continue to worship them. Konami does it once: “Oh My God What Happened To You Konami You Owe Me $40″
no, Konami has been an absolute mess this year, they managed to screw up nearly every release they had: copies of MGS HD in my country where extremely rare to obtain, they thought people wanted 3 Silent Hill games in ONE month, the 3DS port of snake eater has become obsolete and do l really need to mention how they seriously fucked up Blades of Time’s marketing?
“speculating on who and/or what is truly responsible for this mess is perilous at best.”
Konami is. They released a bad product now they refuse to fix said product. Easy.
LOL that made me smile.. because its true. I know the 360 charges developers after the first patch, but if im not mistaken this IS the first patch isn’t it? THere should be no charge for them to fix their damn game
Oh Konami, what the hell happened to you? You’ve been screwing up and making bad decisions all year. I’m starting to get worried about my Bemani games and Castlevania.
