Where does he get those wonderful toys?

Yesterday we learned about Sony’s “Cross-Play” initiative, in which buying a game on the PlayStation Network would entitle you to download it on both your PS3 or Vita. Today we not only have confirmation that this will apply to Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, but that the title will support cross-save support so that you can continue your adventures on either platform.

In addition to that (long overdue) feature, we also have a glut of new information about Full Frontal Assault‘s multiplayer. Even though the next entry is promising a return to the “classic camera, weapons and third-person Ratchet gameplay that the series is known for,” it is also introducing tower defense and MOBA elements to the formula as well. To wit, competitive matches will consist of 2-4 players and feature ranked and custom games.

Shaun McCabe // Production Director, Insomniac Games
A match will consist of rounds that are divided into phases. First, there’s a Recon phase where you’ll capture nodes in the battlefield. Then, in the Squad phase, you’ll build your base defenses and minion squads. Finally, it’s time to get nasty. In the Assault phase you’ll annihilate your opponent by attacking their base. The game ends when one side has destroyed all the generators in the opponent’s base.

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault doesn’t have a release date yet, but it should be coming to the PSN sometime early next year.

I wonder who’s gonna be the antagonist for this game? judging from the trailer, it’s gonna be “Someone from Ratchet & Clank’s past”, and all I can think of is that it’s either gonna be Chairman Drek from the first game, or Gleeman Vox from Ratchet: Deadlocked.

Just please don’t bring back Dr. Nefarious again, by this point, he overstayed his welcome.

I’ve never played a Rachet and Clank game, but I’ve gotta say, the Cross-Play promotion must be working because knowing that I can get two copies of the game for one price REALLY has me much more interested in checking this out.

The HD Collection will be out in a couple weeks, so why not try that?

Game looks awesome, and I like how it resembles the classic gameplay. I cheered when I saw Giant Clank. I’m curious who the “familiar face” is (Nefarious needs a break), but I’m looking forward to this.
