In today’s special TWiG and RAD interview we are pleased to speak with Greg Pabich, the man behind the recent Kickstarter involving Cheetahmen 2: The Lost Levels. The Kickstarter has not been without its detractors however and we ask Greg the tough questions that have arisen from the game playing community about costs, and even a lawsuit that has been brought up. We get the answers that people want and afterwards we do get a chance to sit down with Greg and learn more about him and his history with Cheetahmen 2.

More information on the Kickstarter can be found here

The Game Chasers video regarding the controversy

*Editors note*
This interview was conducted over two days and then cut together to avoid having 2 separate episodes.
Hopefully I don’t repeat myself too much

Birdman

Mike Dodd is the guy who always said video games could be turned into a profession and eventually it turned out he was right. Mike is a passionate nerd about all facets of nerd culture from the love of the BBC’s Doctor Who to the very latest in the fight game scene, he’s on to it and likely turned into his new obsession. Dodd was raised to love all things that were pop culture from viewing his first horror movie at five years old to owning one of the first Nintendos in North America, it’s been a childhood dominated by the controller and movie screens and he couldn’t be happier. Roleplaying games such as Dungeons and Dragons dominated the high school years and unhealthy doses of Japanese anime were frequent as he completed his education and took sometime off to explore Canada and the US. However as all good times must come to an end, a decision was made to get some experience and do something fun and learn something and meant getting involved in the media. Mike volunteered with Rogers Television and became the audio/technical director for several successful programs and decided that he should further that experience by going to college. 4 years and several massive headaches later, Mike became known as “The Birdman” of This week in Geek but that is a story for another website….

l find it amusing how **mike** was censoring peoples comments on the video about the kickstarter being a fraud and then he posts his own feelings on the project being a scam and then decides to disable the comment section lol. If you knew this project was dodgy, why do an advertisement for it?

Yeah, this whole thing is really idiotic…and I don’t see why anyone would want to pay $60 for such a piece of crap

As the Gamechasers said and I agree with them some us of don’t want to play a ROM. We want an original cart. I see no difference between this and NWC repro cart really.

There are plenty of other possible sources to get a rom hack installed onto a repro game cart cheaply than rather paying $60 for it.

Thats the beauty of this…don’t like it and don’t like the price…don’t support/buy it.

Seems to me like alot of people are backing it to bring it down in price and support the concept.

I definitely agree with you. I was a backer because I would like to get the cartridge because I’m not a ROM person myself. I was a $100 donor to the project, giving me a t-shirt, the game with all that it has and a poster to hang. I can’t wait for it but I still don’t understand the AVGN, GameChasers or anything else for that. Is there anywhere to find out about all of that?

I still don’t understand, why pay $60 for a fixed version of a really shitty game?

One that already has had a rom hack out for years now that’ll make the game beatable, for free no less.

I think the thing that annoyed me the most of this Kickstarter thing was shortly after the AVGN video came up about it and Backlash happened, and this is a name that is certain to spark flames instantly so do be warned, the Irate gamer made a Spoof Video of it called “Ebegging: The Spoof”. Just taking a jab at James with as much Subtlety as if it painted itself purple and danced naked on top of a harpsichord singing ‘Subtle Plans Are Here Again.’” It’s dubley ironic when you consider his contests which are essentially the same “Subsribe to me and I give free trinkets out, but only to the select few ‘True Fans’”. There’s plenty more to complain about him, but there’s sites that do it better or you probably already know about it.

As for this project… well it’s interesting. I’ll say that much.
