The Mission: Go into Raccoon city and eliminate all evidence of Umbrella’s involvement in the viral outbreak.
Bring back some take out.
In this episode of RAD, Birdman returns to Raccoon city in this Resident evil squad-based shooter that eluded him earlier this year when his PlayStation committed suicide. The city has been overrun by the T-virus and the survivors of the city are trying to escape and well… Umbrella can’t have that happen at all. The Umbrella operatives are here to cover up as much as they can and even eliminate a certain RPD officer who is causing trouble.
Is this operation a success or should this operation have stayed on paper?

Mike Dodd is the guy who always said video games could be turned into a profession and eventually it turned out he was right. Mike is a passionate nerd about all facets of nerd culture from the love of the BBC’s Doctor Who to the very latest in the fight game scene, he’s on to it and likely turned into his new obsession. Dodd was raised to love all things that were pop culture from viewing his first horror movie at five years old to owning one of the first Nintendos in North America, it’s been a childhood dominated by the controller and movie screens and he couldn’t be happier. Roleplaying games such as Dungeons and Dragons dominated the high school years and unhealthy doses of Japanese anime were frequent as he completed his education and took sometime off to explore Canada and the US. However as all good times must come to an end, a decision was made to get some experience and do something fun and learn something and meant getting involved in the media. Mike volunteered with Rogers Television and became the audio/technical director for several successful programs and decided that he should further that experience by going to college. 4 years and several massive headaches later, Mike became known as “The Birdman” of This week in Geek but that is a story for another website….

Guru Larry and Ian Higton humorously try out the co-op Campaign of Capcom’s latest venture into the Resident Evil franchise, Operation Raccoon City with all their usual British wit!
In all fairness, it’s not as bad as what other reviewers are marking it. Yes, the A.I. is as thick as shit, it’s WAY too dark and the campaign was a bit on the short side and it has a tendency to glitch out. But if you can get three other mates involved it is far more entertaining. This game was meant to be played with friends, it’s just a shame Capcom didn’t emphasise that more and forgot some people might have to play it on their own. It’s definitely worth a rent at least.

I mean the game is not bad, yes it has some pros and cons, but thats why im waiting for my birthday to get it, by that time the price should be lowered to somewhat reasonable. But i am pissed because the 360 is getting the Nemesis mode and not PS3 users thats bull-crap. I mean seriously it’s stupid to where the company is asking for an extra $10.00 for a $60.00 game if it has the word Colletors Edition on it, but they always give away the cool features to a company thats not even worth it. Don’t get me wrong microsoft is a good company but i dont like it when they think they can get better game features than sony, i mean lets think about it. Microsoft had halo that was alright, but they kept getting the whole collection and the microsoft PC users couldn’t unless they had a 360, i mean Sony would also make good money if they had the series but Bungie only contracted microsoft to have the rights to it. I am sorry to say but 360 blows for games,Online, and DLC because you have to pay for everything the games, the equipment, and here’s the nut-stomper Online you have to give them money just to play multiyplayer every month which is not worth it, where as in PS3 everything is better you just need to pay for the games, DLC sometimes theres freebies, and movies. But online play is Free plus its less expensive to get a PS3 fixed if its dead or broken than a 360. I pray to god and hope Sony and PS3 gets the Nemesis Mode.
Larry, please start making videos like this more regularly – nothing brightens up my day like seeing a new Guru Larry video!
This game really isn’t as bad as it’s made out to be. Fans of third person shooters will eat this up if they can get some friends to play with. It’s pretty tough to play on anything above normal difficulty single-player. I get the feeling that Capcom didn’t feel like extending the marketing budget to paying off review websites *cough* Gamespot *cough*. This tells me Capcom pushed the developers to release it early to make a quick buck when the competition for it would be low, rather than give it the further development time it required to make it a half-decent game and risk spending more money on a game that would almost certainly fail on a sales front when put up against the latest CoD. Kind of a shame but that’s how the industry works right now.
To this day I can’t understand why in the name of Zeus’ butthole Capcom didn’t released an enhanced version of Resident Evil Outbreak on Xbox. That game had some interesting ideas for a true RE online experience, but the game was doomed from the start on PS2. First of all it lack mic support so couldn’t communicate with your teammates and to use some retarded adlib system. And it’s a shame because the game looked damn good and had an interesting story (somewhat similar to the first L4D). An HD re-release on XBLA/PSN would be welcomed.
I like this game alot,i think people were expecting it to be some what like RE:5 but this is different its more squad based, which is different for RE,and yes the single player part is bad by yourself but its great online with friends. Also the online matches are great and fun to play, the one DLC nemesis mode is fun too, worth to check that out! And lets not forget that its also great to play the bad guy(s) for once! wish more games were like that!
Hahah, he said “the token chinese girl…or japanese”. Oh the hypocrisy is delicious!
Hey, there’s two other Brits on Blistered Thumbs
The game got glitches and the ai is stupid as hell but the game is fun anyways its great with three way battles and the graphics is good. It is a very chaotic thrid person shooter and I like it a lot.
At 44:06 the video cuts off like it’s finished playing. Anyone else with this problem?
You seem to have that video glitch I had the other day, have you got the latest version of flash and firefox?
Other than that you can see the end on mt YouTube channel, link is at the bottom of the article!
Yes, I have the latest version of both of them. Weird.
Oh well, I’ll go with the YT video, then.
I am curious, what happened to these running zombies when Leon, Claire, and Jill were in the city?
No idea, were they all killed?
Man this game was Garbage.
Man this game was Garbage
Gotta disagree heavily with you there Larry. This game is awful, plain and simple. One of the worst rentals I’ve ever had. I luckily made up for it with
Armored Core 5, but ORC is a betrayal, and a horribly slow, and bugged up the ass betrayal at that. A painfully short campaign, shamelessly tacked on Multiplayer, insulting storyline, terrible single player experience full of bugs and broken AI, and just a pure butchering to the gameplay formula. Say what you want about RE:5, but at least it FELT somewhat like an RE game. Slant Six MAY have tried their best… but they’re not a very good company. The SOCOM games they DID make were the bad ones in the series. They’re NOT a good company. This game isn’t “O.K” or “Decent” in my opinion. It’s rage inducing garbage, but I wont belittle anyone that DOES like the game… but you guys are in a serious minority. You have your opinion Larry, and I respect it, but I NEVER thought you’de stick up for this game. “Is it really as bad as Reviewers make it out to be?” Yes… yes it definitely is.
You did watch the video right?
If you play the game on your own, it’s a total pile of shit yes. But it’s a lot more entertaining with friends.
I played with the only two friends I had that actually rented the game alongside me… one of us did like it, my friend Rich, but only because he’s a huge fan of TPS games and is extremely tolerant, his favorite TPS being Brute Force. It was a LITTLE better with friends, but not by much. Too short still, no real replayability, and the multiplayer is just awful. As for the video, I watched about half of it, I had a big headache and couldn’t finish, sorry. I’m a big fan of your work, despite my friends hating your British accent (They’re big fans of Spoony and AJ), but I think it adds class. As for the game itself, I just couldn’t stand it. I assume you’re a fan of RE (Or at least are familiar with the games) so I’ll make it clear in saying, I don’t think it’s the worst in the series. THAT title goes to RE: Gaiden, and RE: Survivor. After playing those, I’ll play ORC anytime, but on a personal level as a die hard fan, I just can’t accept this entry in the series. I am looking forward to RE:6 and am hopeful that it fixes what RE:5 somewhat set out to destroy, and what ORC tried to nail the coffin in.
the game is FAR from awful. the only problems i have with it is that its too dark and the AI in non multiplayer games is pretty bad. its people like you who bitch and whine about just about ANY game unless its absolutely perfect. they honestly tried their best with this game and i think it really shows. and very honestly i doubt you have even RENTED this game.. metal gear peace walker got a MUCH higher review and i didn’t even come CLOSE to having as much fun with it as i have ORC.. sure it has a (deep) story but sometimes you dont give two shits about a story, you just want to jump in and play a video game and oh, i dont know… have FUN? when did games become less about having fun and more about a theatrical experience? some of the problems people complain about in this game i didnt even notice while i played it. i wholeheartedly believe the MAIN reason this game is getting such a horrible review is due to Capcom getting so much flack about the canceling of megaman legends and megaman being fat in tekken x streetfighter. all the little crybaby fanboys are boycotting capcom and this game just fell right on in with all of that nonsense. if you dont like it dont play it, but dont lie and try to get people who MIGHT like it to not try it. i ALMOST didnt buy it cause all this negative BS. im just happy i didnt listen
I could reply… but seriously, it’s just too easy, and I don’t have the time correcting the amount of stupid you just threw at me. I just about lost it laughing when you basically said you liked ORC more than Peace Walker. That’s like comparing Saving Private Ryan to 28 Weeks later. Wow, I’m stunned you responded. As for the technical aspects of the game, when I played it with friends, we felt it was a chore. Yes, I do play games for fun, but when I’m getting to the point where I actually feel tired, and need a break not 2 hours after popping it in, something is seriously wrong. Portable Ops, I could play nonstop. I once played it straight, for about 11 hours and stopped to go to sleep. ORC isn’t the worst in the series, no, but it’s definitely up there with Outbreak and dead Aim, both bad in there own rights.
I could keep going, but I’ll end it here by asking one simple question: Why should anyone buy this game?… simple. It doesn’t do anything new; it’s terribly short, with virtually no replayability; it has generic third person shooting (which there are many other, much better titles I could get); has standard co-op like in most zombie games (Left 4 Dead, Dead Rising 2, Dead Island, Nazi Zombies, basically all are much better than this); it’s meant for fans but it’s a horrid betrayal in both story and gameplay style despite being a “What if” scenario; And as for the company, Slant Six, I don’t deny they put effort into making this, but as a company, they actually aren’t very good. If you look up their track record, most, if not all, of their games are crap. “SOCOM with zombies” the RE community calls this, and that’s about what it is. Generic garbage.
Doesn’t look too bad
Ah there are a couple of games I can think of where you play the out and out bad guy.
Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2 and Evil Genuis (where you play a Bond villaneque type bad guy).
I do wish they’d make a sequel to Evil Genuis…
Fun video, glad to see my friends and I aren’t the only ones who at least had fun while playing this game. The reviews I’ve heard seem so harsh when the game isn’t that bad. It’s just average really.
I’m looking forward for Aliens: Colonial Marines
Doesn’t look as bad as most reviews make it out to be and I like the fact that its set between Resident Evil 2 and 3 in Raccoon City, 2 of my favourite resi games before they pumped the series full of steroids Michael Bay style
After watching this, the game does look like it is better than a 3/10. It does look like Slant Six Games put effort in this title, I like how there are Crimson Heads in the game and it seems like it would be fun with four players. The design problems still rear their ugly head as there is a clear ripoff of the headcrabs and there seems to be serious bugs with the AI. Overall, I do want to try it, but where I usually do play a lot of games single-player, I believe I am going to wait till the price drops and get the game used before I do. This was very entertaining to watch and hope there is more fun to be had in the game.
Thanks dude, I thought it would be good to show the viewers an actual level in the game and also explain how the game works, rather than short “snippets” as it does give you a better impression of what the game is like.
But Ripping off headcrabs is the least of Valve’s concerns, OCR is pretty much a slower paced third person Left 4 Dead!!!
If you play this on your own, just keep away from playing it in anything above Veteran as I guarantee you’ll have pulled all your hair out over the sheer stupidity of the A.I. team mates.
I didn’t show it in the video, but one segment, I was stuck in a room as the A.I. wouldn’t get out of the door way, so it was just quicker to team kill them, step over the corpse and hen revive them!
Agreed, but I don’t think Valve needs to worry about OCR mimicking Left 4 Dead because the community for Left 4 Dead, especially PC, has tons of support through its added levels, mutations, custom levels and mods that it will be hard to top that game as I believe it is the best arcade-style zombie game out there. That glitch you ran into reminds me of Skyrim how the Atronaches get in your way XD Is there even a punishment for you reviving your teammates? Thanks for the advice but, in the meantime waiting for the price to drop, I’ll keep hoping a remake of Outbreak will be made so the online will work because I’d buy that game instantly XD
You can only teamkill in levels above Normal, so if they lodge themselves in a doorway in Normal or under, you’re pretty much fucked.
But there is no punishment for reviving teammates, other than you’ll miss out getting an “S” Rank at the end of a level. That’s it!
Oh, another fun glitch we found out on a boss fight is the medic will respawn with a health spray when revived, so the only way we got through that fight was to ask a team mate to constantly team kill me so I could respawn with the spray! Insane!!!
Oh, if you play on your own, the AI will NEVER revive you!
PS There is a Resident Evil HD Collection coming out (aside from Chronicles HD), so Outbreak “may” be part of that. Though most likely it’ll be 1,2 and 3. Possibly zero.
What the? A Resident Evil HD Collection? Really? Oh PLEASE, I truly hope Capcom use their brains and remaster the Gamecube titles, and remake Resident Evil 2 and 3 using the assets created for this game. Unfortunately I have a feeling it’ll just be the remastered Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica on a disc….that’d be OK, for the right price, but not what I really want.
