I would do unforgivable things for some Persona 5 concept art.

I apologize if BT is beginning to look like a Megami Tensei fan-site, but this is big news. This week’s issue of Japanese video game magazine Famitsu has just been translated by Andriasang, and contains some heartening news for fans of Atlus’ marquee franchise. According to the post, “Team Persona’s Katsura Hashino says that his staff is currently focused on the next numbered entry in the Persona series (that means Persona 5).”

Holy schnikes.

The next game in the wildly successful series of JRPGs is underway, with artwork and programming progress occurring at this very moment. There are other games in the works for both Atlus and Hashino, but nothing that is going to match the monolithic importance of the next MegaTen entry. Well, whether or not it is the next one depends on the development of Shin Megami Tensei IV. Presumably, IV will be a 3DS and Vita title, while Persona 5 will be for Xbox 360 and PS3. I could be wrong though, so feel free to debate this in the comments below.

I’m curious, will P5 come to Xbox? Catherine and P4A came out on Xbox, but the other titles before it were basically Sony exclusives.

Considering there isn’t even an official announcement of the game’s existence yet (this being the closest we have to that), the correct answer here is “no one knows.” If I were the betting type though, I’d say it’ll be on both, given Atlus has been starting to include the 360 in their console releases lately, as you noted.

Yeah, here’s the order to go with:

    1. Persona 3 (FES if you can get it => 9.99 on PSN)
    2. Persona 4 (Golden for the Vita)
    3. Persona 4 Arena
    4. Persona 1*
    5. Persona 2*
*Just to see where the series has come from and gone since.

I’ve actually never played a Persona game before, but its news like this that makes me want to pick up Persona 4…and I think I will.

I for some reason you don’t like 4 (and I think most people would), give P1PSP a go too (if you have a PSP, natch). I’m in a minority that thinks it’s better :p

No! Play P3 first. Or else you’ll develop the opinion that P4 is better. :P

No, he’ll develop that opinion either way because it is better.

My comment was sort of a joke really, because P4 does have the better fighting mechanics and better characters. But P3 is my favorite and thematically is better than P4. I think all the parts fit perfectly in 3.

Definitely don’t play P3 first. That game is simply a grind fest, and you run the risk of burning yourself out on it (as I did) and not being able to enjoy P4 as a result – P4 is essentially P3 v2 (whereas the other games are quite vastly different from one another) – except the level design is decent.

I expected as much because I believe they said after Catherine that would be their next project to focus on.

And if I remember correctly Catherine was really their “test” to see how the game would look HD wise.

Good to hear about this none the less.
