Dinner time.

The multiplayer online battle arena, a sub-genre of the RTS, has definitely been on the rise of late. It seems like more and more of this type of game are being released or are in development and the sub-genre is even starting to see some real experimentation come out of it. Take Awesomenauts for example. This game, first released on PSN and XBLA some months back and now also available via Steam, takes the classic MOBA formula and applies it to a (gorgeous) 2D world. What sounds like a small change in theory actually has a major impact on the way a MOBA is played without ever actually losing that essential flavor that makes the sub-genre what it is. It is a neat bit of gameplay development to be sure and its no surprise the game has become something of a hit. And now its seems Awesomenauts will be expanding just that little bit more with the announcement of a new playable character.

Named Gnaw, this little stomach on legs has been confirmed to be incoming as a piece of free DLC for the PC version of Awesomenauts and set to be released soon. Developer Ronimo Games has not yet commented on if and/or when Gnaw will arrive for PSN and XBLA at this time. Check out Gnaw’s debut trailer, along with an official press release announcing the character and more, below.

After a very successful opening week the PC build of Awesomenauts is getting its first update. We’ve been blown away by the success of the PC version, and the fastly growing community can look forward to lots of updates in the future. Todays’ update contains various minor fixes, and a bigger update is coming very soon! This update will introduce a new character, called Gnaw! Gnaw is a nasty piece of work, a dirty doglike creature who likes to bite and spit poisonous ooze on his foes. Trained by his Cosmic biker pirate masters, he is a devious little monster. Anyone interested in setting loose a rabid, chitinous menace, should check out this latest Awesomenaut! Gnaw will soon be added to the Awesomenauts roster, for free! Gnaw will be playable at GamesCom in Cologne next week. Look us up at the Valve booth in Hall 7.1, stand C030 to get a taste of this powerful new creature!

We’ve also been getting tons of requests for allowing Youtube monetization for Awesomenauts footage, and we’d hereby like to announce that we are ok with that. In fact we are super excited to see more footage of Awesomenauts!

Awesomenauts is available for PSN, XBLA, and Steam now. Stay tuned to Blistered Thumbs for continuing coverage of the game and be sure to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.
