European Gamers get a game first? insanity! …jk

Today, NISA has announced that their localization of Mugen Souls is going to be delayed in North America until October 16th. PAL region players need not worry though, as the game will still be released on September 28th. While no official reason was given, a possible reason is that NISA is finishing the necessary censorships to keep the ESRB from giving the game an AO rating (the game features a fair bit of fanservice which is likely the reason the AO rating was given after an initial review).

The game follows the adventures of Chou-Chou infinite, a self-proclaimed god who can make people her slaves, as she journeys to conquer seven planets. The game has an interesting combat system, which is demonstrated in the following trailer:

So excited for this game.. even pre-ordered the edition with the lil figurine doods. Also can’t wait for Sage to call me a pedophile again, but I guess that just comes with the territory. Remember kids, mass murder is A-OK but don’t you dare play a game with big-eyed anime girls in short skirts.

Is it just me, or does this look pretty…

    overwhelming (apologies)

Shame its been delayed, but I wonder why the EU release is still on track. Some of the censorship laws in EU countries are incredibly strict. Maybe it is a region issue

I honestly don’t think it’s a censorship thing. They already told us they are going to censor out the bath scrubbing mini-game. Which I’ve seen, it’s completely pointless but I wouldn’t have cared if it was in there anyway.
Also I don’t know about the rest of the EU countries, but we had the uncut version of Fahrenehit, the one with the nudity and sex scenes. And the BBFC rated it 15. It got cut in the US, so I doubt it’s anything to do with the EU.

Well, at least my preorder of the NIS exclusive special edition won’t be combining with my preorder of Dead or Alive 5′s special edition as an expensive fanservice game dual assault on my wallet.

“EUROPEAN GAMERS GET A GAME FIRST? INSANITY! …JK”

How AREN’T you kidding?! Europe getting a game released before us is a sign of the apocalypse!

That aside, I saw this and was interested, but if it was initially labeled an AO for Fanservice, then I don’t know… I didn’t get Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2 despite enjoying the first one due to hearing about how much more fanservice filled it is, and if this got an AO rating upon initial review by the ESRB, then holy crap it must have had a metric shit ton of it. If it was delayed for that reason, then I wonder if it will be the L4D2 of JRPGs for us, haha.

Record of Agarest War 2 and CFW Trick managed to got through ESRB nonsense with little to no problems so I highly doubt censorship is the main reason. If it is, how sad.

Whatever, I can wait a while longer.

I doubt it’s a censorship thing. The game has been rated 16+ in Europe. I actually find it funny that AO rating are unacceptable in north america when the 18+ rating in Europe is totally cool and fine. When they’re basically the same rating. “Adult’s only” last time I checked you have to be 18 to legally be an adult, so 18+ basically is just saying Adult’s only. What is the difference? America being too prudish?

The US has ALWAYS been prudish when it comes to stuff like this, it’s nothing new. It is annoying though, that grotesque violence is widely considered ok, but a single boob being shown in a movie or game, then may God help you. Granted, it has gotten better in recent years, but we’re still light years behind other countries in this regard.

Partial nudity isn’t always an automatic bad rating. Depends on how artsy the film is (in other words, it’s kinda random at times). However, a single use of the word “fuck” is an automatic R rating in the US. A good example of this is Galaxy Quest. In the scene in the belly of the ship near the end, Gwen says “fuck that” in the original cut. But because it was going to give the movie an R rating they dubbed it with “screw that,” even though Sigourney Weaver still clearly mouths “fuck that” in the video. They got a PG rating for doing this, though. This is also why there were two cuts of the King’s Speech in the US. One for adult audiences and one for family audiences.

The MPAA isn’t exactly the most loved system in the US. >.>

I dunno about that; Super8 was rated PG-13, and that had a guy say “What the fuck?”, uncensored and all. I read that one use of “fuck” is allowed in a PG-13 movie, so long as it is used as an expletive and has no sexual connotations. Given the context of the scene from Super8, it fits.

Besides, this is the ESRB we’re talking about…though, seeing how we’ve had onscreen boobs and offscreen sex minigames in God of War and that consistently got away with M-ratings, I still don’t get this.
