Doom

A lot of you may remember the glorious first-person shooter, Doom, from the 90′s, and you may be familiar with Doom 3, from the mid-2000′s. However, did you know that it’s possible to create entire levels, using mods from Doom 3? Better yet, did you know that a group of people actually recreated the entirety of Knee Deep in the Dead – the first “episode” of classic Doom, and even remixed the tunes? It’s classic Doom, but with better graphics! Oh, and if that’s not enough, after the LP of the classic Doom mod, I also show off the most difficult Doom level id Software has produced: the second secret level from Final Doom: Evilution! LET’S! GO! CRAZY!

As always, this is embedded in playlist form, so after clicking the video, you can select any installment you’d like from within. Have fun!

NOTE: Due to an rendering error, there’s a small clip of blackness during “Episodes 4 and 5,” when I pick up the Berserk powerup.  To avoid having to leave your video to see it, here’s a link to that clip.

I still have a high opinion of the “normal Doom 3″ personally.

But either way, the other amazing aspect of Doom 3 is that the game looks freaking amazing, yet has ridiculously low system requirements.

Getting great graphics with factory built “value priced” computers with integrated graphics was something that still seems foreign almost in PC gaming.

Doom 3 was a good game, but it wasn’t a great Doom game. I wanted them to throw monsters at me left and right, and have glorious music to back it up! :-D

I forgot how much Doom cost back in the day, but Knee Deep in the Dead was originally shareware, so my dad got the old 3.5 “floppy” disks for free at a CVS pharmacy. :-D

Of course, being shareware, this meant that there was no plasma rifle or BFG 9000 in that version. If you got the full game, it came with Episodes 1-3 (Episode 4 came out later), and you COULD unlock the plasma rifle and BFG 9000 in Knee Deep in the Dead.
