Lotus Prince Let’s Play: Silent Hill 2 (Complete), 9.3 out of 10 based on 13 ratings

We are about to embark on a voyage of astounding storytelling and unparalleled horror…nand we’re going to enjoy every minute of it! Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the survival horror game to end all survival horror games: Silent Hill 2.

This video is a playlist!  Once it loads, you can select any installment you wish, or let the whole thing play continuously!

NOTE: My apologies for the weird slow-down in my voice in Part 6. Yes, it might make things creepier, but it was unintentional. :-P

When I finished Silent Hill 2 for the first time I watched the behind the scenes dvd that came with it. It showed some really interesting stuff, and I recommend any SH enthusiasts to watch it if they haven’t already. When it was going over the characters, the narrator pointed out something like this; “Angela’s style of clothing seems quite strange considering she is only 16 years old.” It really surprised me, I thought she was young but not young enough to be a teenager. It made me pay more attention to her during my second play-through. Just some interesting trivia.

The question is though. Is Silent Hill a malevolent force. I would have to say yes. If it is powerful enough to create real people it should also be able to teach lessons without causing so much misery. Like, what about the people Eddie killed, why did they have to die for a test or a lesson. Also not found of giving Laura to him as a reward, if the town did that. People should not be prizes. Just because it has to be objectifying. But I wonder what made Laura trust and like James again, if the town manipulated her will, certainly it could have done that to James and Maria wouldn’t have had to die and Eddie never would have been a paranoid serial murderer/spree killer. Or does one have to “prove” one self before such a boon has to be granted? Again we’re back to Silent Hill not being good in nature.

In the ending where Maria lives, why does Maria develop the cough? Why not James? James is the only character that may not die for not passing the test of Silent Hill. If the “Leaving” ending is the one Silent Hill intended for him to learn. Eddie gets no second chances and Angela is in perpetual Hell. And what about Laura is she going to wait another ten years in her Silent Hill (going on the assumption that she has been in silent hill since close to when Mary died) until Harry has yet again killed a woman (assuming he learned nothing at all from Silent Hill)?

In the end I think Silent Hill is being very forgiving towards James but unnecessarily cruel towards all other characters, except Laura. Still a good game though that delved in to themes few other games have.

Parts 1B and 2A of “Born from a Wish” seem to be the same video when I try to watch them.

Whoops; you got me. I think I misconstructed the playlist. There’s Parts 1A and 1B, but only a regular Part 2. It should be updated now. Thanks for the heads-up!

God, it’s funny when you feel relieved whenever a restroom or something you know is going to be a creepy room. Funnily enough, I felt the same way.

Still, thanks for making me paranoid and not sleep at night because of these walkthroughs.

For now, I’ll try to finish this one. I finished the eternal darkness, and I always wanted to know how this game’s story plays out. Because oddly enough, most horror games have stories that you want to see through to the end. Even if they make you paranoid from start to finish. Not that I’ll ever play one.

Okay, so I skipped most of it. You’ll have to excuse me for doing so, but I really wanted to see the in-depth analysis.

With that said, this game doesn’t make sense if you didn’t look further into it.

If you just look at all the characters without thinking about their importance, then the plot would be kind of confusing. You only got it if you figured out how what surrounds James showcased James as a character.

That’s actually pretty neat. I don’t see that happening in a lot of stories, albeit this is the only story I know that does it in this manner.

Still, I’m not sure if I should continue these lets plays. You love horror, and that much is clear to me now. I only watched this because I was interested in how the story was told. The main reason I don’t even want to look at horror is how easy it is for me to become paranoid because of horror. It’s harder for me to let things go like this. It will swirl around in my brain, so I have to let this sink and keep braving my life.

But enough about myself and my rant. I have to say, your lets plays have ups and downs and the downs can get aggravating, while the ups expose me to things I don’t think I would have ever seen if I didn’t work up the insane courage for this.

Thanks for the lets plays, but I’ll try to keep my sanity to me by not looking at horror games as much. Not even so much as a review.

Yeah, the plot with James kind of sort of works if you don’t know what’s going on, but why does the room change in the Labyrinth with Angela? Why is her area on fire? Why is Laura accusing you of being terrible to Mary? What’s up with Mary on that radio? Yeah, it CAN make sense, but it’s hard to piece together, especially the first time.

Also, good news: while I enjoy horror, that’s not all I do. At some point I’ll have Gitaroo Man, and Beyond Good and Evil up, for example. Also, Shadow of the Colossus. Freaking LOVE that game, and that game has more story than you may think!

About gitaroo man and beyond good and evil, I’ve got both games. Well, maybe had the former, but I have to yet complete the latter. I know how much story is in the latter.

Also, gitaroo man is HARD on the hardest setting, I just could never finish some kind of organ rock stage. It was that hard.

But I would like to see you play shadow of the colossus. I’ve already seen one lets play of that. I haven’t seen too much plot in the game, though, and what plot there is doesn’t make too much sense. I did notice what was happening to the protagonist.

Yeah, horror games tend to have surprisingly good stories. SH2′s really is one of my favorites. The symbolism is just freaking crazy!

Also, this game is scary. That hospital. God.

Slow down Lotus, you’re going to make the other authors of blistered thumbs look “lazy” with so many updates so fast, lol :)

Ha! Well, I’m uploading my backlog. Trust me, I’m quick (on the TGWTG blogs I’d do a single installment per day), but even I can’t regularly pump out entire freaking LP’s every two or three days. :-P I just want to catch up to myself, so I can properly update on here.

But yeah, maybe I should slow it down by another day at a time, or so.
