Lotus Prince Let’s Play: Eternal Darkness (Complete),
Greetings, everyone! I am Lotus Prince! I mainly do Let’s Play videos, and I’ve been creating them since February 14, 2010. While I would normally put these posts into Blistered Thumbs in order, this is my first impression here, and I’d like to put my best foot forward, and so I am starting with my very first LP with captured console footage: Eternal Darkness! This is one of my most well-received LP’s, and it’s one that I had a whole lot of fun creating. After this LP, I will post the rest of my videos in order, and when I catch up to the one I’m currently working on, I’ll post installments as I go, every two or three days.
Well, now that that wall o’text is out of the way, it’s time for the big show! Here’s Eternal Darkness! LET’S GO CRAZY!
NOTE: It’s now in playlist form! YYYEEEAAAAHHHH
And finally, here are the amazing title cards that people volunteered to me!
Alex Roivas! By Richard Wesker.

Pious Augustus! By LunaCatt.

Great video! I just finished watching the entire let’s play the other day and I think you did a fantastic job at conveying the epicness of the game. However, I must disagree with you concerning its difficulty, particularly during the later chapters: while watching you play, I was under the impression that you deliberately didn’t use the game’s most useful spells, like Magick Pool or Shield, to make it seem more challenging than it actually is. I also noticed a small mistake you did while describing the Mantorok rune’s effects, especially regarding the Reveal Invisible spell, as casting it under Mantorok actually turns your character invisible, which allows to sneak past enemies unnoticed (gee, what a geek I am). Also, during the final battle against Pious, you seemed unaware of the greatest advantage the enchanted gladius bestows upon you: if you target and attack your foe from a distance with it, the gladius will fly and hit the enemy before magically respawning in your hand!
Anyway, it’s soothing to see this game garnering increasing attention the more time passes by, but it is a shame that we probably never will get a sequel of sorts (i.e. different Ancients, improved and expanded magic system, alternate storyline…) due to Silicon Knights’ present situation (curse you, Dennis Dyack!). If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check the link below

Alright, time to check out your Alice let’s play. Keep up the good work!
This was an enjoyable watch. In the beginning though I thought you gave us too much info on the sanity effects, I just felt it would have been more effective the less we knew about them in advance, I felt I would have been able to expect what was coming up. Although that might have been my prior knowledge acting up. When you where playing the last church level and Edwards run through the city, you kept saying that it sucked, did you mean the levels you characters situation or what? I also note that you where very melee-happy you where, not until Edwards chapter was ranged weapons used at all very little.
The last church chapter and Edward’s run through the city are brutal. When I say “they suck,” I don’t mean in terms of quality. Every character’s situation is awful in this game, but I meant that the levels are quite difficult – or at least they were for me.
Thanks for the info, and for your support!
The Boss fight with the Thing was especially bnnerv-wrecking for me. I was actually suprised that you didnt use the 6-point Enchantment spell for the rifle or any other weapon. (?_?)
I was suprised you’d use the Attack spell at all and even in the boss fight but it seemed effective when you used it.
Its been years when I last played it and I enjoyed to watch you play it. And it was cool of you to not use the gamebreaker. It also made me feel less tsupid for not finding it on my first playthrough.
(I however remember the purple heal spell to heall everything including the Mana, making it even more of a gamebreaker but then again: years ago)
Thanks for reminding me of the Joy of this game. I will make my friends a follower of the ETERNAL DARKNESS
*Laughes evily*
I’m at Part 4 and definitely like it so far, congrats on becoming a member of the Blistered Thumbs team. The only nitpick I have is calling the “MUTE” and “reconnect controller” effects completely unique when a variation on both was in the Psycho Mantis fight from Metal Gear Solid. Not used before in a survival horror and not as a sanity effect, but certainly not completely unique to this game. Other than that nitpick, really enjoying.
Wow, I completely forgot about the Psycho Mantis fight. Good call.
Woah, man!
You got picked up here?!
Major congratulations!
“Epic” incidentally is both an adjective or a noun. You described the definition of the noun, but insisted that the use of the word as an adjective is wrong. This is not the case. Sorry, but I had to point this out; when you are trying to define the meaning of a word, you need to be absolutely sure that you’re doing it correctly, or you’ll run into someone like me — possibly in a dark alleyway.
I’m aware of the adjective form of the word, such as “this is epic in scale,” but when I decry its use, I’m referring more to people grossly understating it, using it in place of “cool,” for example. Someone might see an amazing skateboard stunt and say “Wow, epic!” That’s the kind of thing that bothers me – not the fact that it’s used as an adjective, but rather that something that is epic is FAR more grand than something like that.
One of the biggest supporterss of the Survival Horror genre,a dude known as AlphaOmegaSin on Youtube is a HUGE fan of this.
In my opinion, this is one of the best games in its genre!
The concept of sanity is no longer unique to this game. Maybe it was at the time it was made, I dunno. But Amnesia: The Dark Descent also play with this concept. Maybe not to the same extent. Story wise, it’s not as epic, but it’s as scary as a game can get. I definitely recommend if you like scary games that messes with your head.
Yeah, the sanity stuff was unique when the game came out, but now a bunch of games tried playing with similar effects. I do indeed own Amnesia, and I definitely will play it in the future. I greatly look forward to it.
Very shortly after this game came out, there was another that also used sanity effects, more in the style of Amnesia than Eternal Darkness. Namely Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. It’s a quite good game in its own right, albeit annoyingly unfinished towards the end.
Uh, you do realize Lovecraft and his themes of monsters driving people absolutely insane has been around LONG LONG LONG before Eternal Darkness right…………………………………?
Have to……
Obviously? You know that my avatar is Nyarlathotep the Crawling Chaos from an obscure Lovecraft filmatization, right?
I was referring to game mechanics, not story elements, genious.
But in how many games? Or even as effectively as here?
Hey, congrats! ^.^
Thank you so much!
You know what I love about this game, that a lot of the cast of the Legacy of Kain are in it. Mostly just the voices of Mobiues, and Raziel. Just awesome, and I’m sure a few others.
But yes, I remember this game, and loving it, I need to buy this game again.
Thanks again Lotus. See you around, I hope.
You know, I never thought about it at all, but…is Kain the same voice as Pious Augustus? That’d be amazing!
Indeed. This game is epic in both story and the unique elements that make it great. With the exception of maybe House of the Dead, this game has the best controls I’ve ever encountered in a horror survival title. I know a lot of people say that hard controls help add to the horror by making you feel powerless, but I have always found that bad controls take me out of the game because I’m too busy bitching and struggling to let myself get immersed. It’s Lovecraft in everything but the name and really makes you doubt your own sanity when your character loses theirs. I have never met a game that messed with my head like this one. I have such fun memories of playing this game as my friends watched, since I was the only one brave enough to play it. I was never so happy to have owned a gamecube over a ps2 & xbox than the day I put this in.
Great LP! I have been dying to see a solid LP of this and I definitely share your love. Welcome to the site. I can’t wait to see more
Woah Lotus Prince… Long time no type. I must say congrats getting into Blister thumbs and was really surprise to see iton the main site. Well time to play catch… A LOT of catching up to do.
Thank you so much! It’s great to hear from you again!
I get a weird static on the audio.
Are you listening with headphones? You may want to check the connection. The sound should be good; I just listened to an installment or two to be sure.
Congratulations! Now whenever I want to watch on old LP, I won’t have to scroll through dozens of pages.
Interesting. This game is more unsettling than scary so I never considered it to be horror, and it’s way too easy to be considered survival. I’d call it an action puzzler :p
But still, one of, if not *the* best game on Gamecube.
I was so happy to see this on tgwtg’s frontpage today! Eternal Darkness is one of my favorite games, I actually bought it after listening to some of the game’s voiceacting online.
Also, congrats! I’ll keep an eye on your next uploads!
congratulation Lotuse on making it to blister thumbs hope nothing for the beast for you and keep making thorw great video. lots of love
I made it 5 minutes into this Let’s Play until i had to stop, it got really freaking annoying how big of a boner you had for this game, it sounds as if you are brownnosing it from beginning to end, claiming it superior to everything else by admiring every little thing (Including the f’ing Nintendo Logo) to absurd levels.
I know this is a great game, but i don’t want to listen to someone with such an extreme bias for it hailing every single piece of it as a masterpiece above all other masterpieces (the whole part about the word Epic for example).
So i’ll leave this Let’s Play in favour of other, less elitist Let’s Players.
I find it annoying too that you have to insult him instead of keeping that comment to yourself, you feel better about yourself now?
I can’t believe the amount of stupid in your comment…
All i did was post my honest opinion about the video in question, which i found to be extremely biased and skewed in favour of the product in question, there was an absurd amount of praise, making it hard to listen to.
If you don’t agree, that’s fine, you go enjoy the Let’s Play in question, but that doesn’t mean that anyone who doesn’t agree with you should be quiet.
Cause in the end, this is the Internet, where everyone is allowed an opinion, i know you want it to be more like a fascist state where people of different opinions are silenced, but it isn’t, and that’s what makes it so great.
Of course I’m biased toward the game. I’m certainly not completely and one hundred percent neutral toward. I like it, and therefore I’m biased toward it. I despise Alone in the Dark for the Wii, and therefore I’m biased against it.
But make no mistake: I’m not saying that if you dislike the game, then you’re wrong. I’m saying that I freaking love this game, and I hope that you do too.
To be fair, I had the exact same opinion as you in the first part of the LP. I seriously made an account just to comment on the video saying that he probably WASN’T putting his best foot forward because of how fucking annoying he was in the intro. However, I powered on and listened to the 2 next parts and it does get less aggravating and blatant, and I’m setting up to listen to the 4th part.
He still doesn’t let the viewer discover anything and the “surprises” of a guy who’s played through the game 5 times just come off as condescending, but it’s still worth a watch if you haven’t played the game.
First off, no you didn’t. You called him elitist and deliberately overhyped how much you hated it. Second, if you have the freedom online to act like a dick, then we have the freedom to treat you like shit for being a dick. Running around and crying like a baby because someone called you on your shit just proves your are just being a jerk for the sake of being a jerk, and thus your opinion can be completely discounted.
You’re right, this is the internet, and if you act like a douchebag, several people are going to try to make you feel like shit until you either shape up or run away. It’s your choice.
Yes, you can have opinions, it’s whether or not you can say it without sounding like a douche.
Call me fascist? Another helping of douche for you.
It’s the greatest survival horror game I’ve ever played – MAYBE the second greatest. Between this and Silent Hill 2, it’s REALLY close.
And part of the reason I was “orgasming” during my first installment is because I hadn’t played the game in something like five years, so I was actually reliving my childhood again. Well, maybe not my childhood so much as my high school years, but eh, close enough.
If you didn’t like this, then maybe watch out for American McGee’s Alice as well, because that game REALLY impacted me back in 2001. Perhaps look into Corpse Party instead. At least there, I was playing for the first time.
Also, for the record, I try not to be a fanboy. At the end of – the second installment, I think? – I do point out that while I love the game, its graphics are mediocre, and the gameplay is only okay. The story is epic in the literal sense of the word. I’m actually being objective about that. The game is definitely not perfect, but it gives the player a horror experience literally unlike any other, as some of the sanity effects break the fourth wall. The game was groundbreaking for its time, and it still holds up today.
But here I am again, doing a wall of text. Man, I really do write like I talk.
tl;dr, if my play style isn’t for you, then that’s fine, but at least pay attention to the games themselves. It seems that you’ve played this one already, so in that case, GOOD FOR YOU! Part of why I LP is to raise awareness for certain games (Harvester, Corpse Party, God Hand), so if the only thing you get from my stuff is “this game exists,” then consider my message received.
Congratulations on making it here mon and I have to say Eternal Darkness is a great way to start I love that lp.
Well have fun and remember you’re not famous until you get you’re first hater
Looks like I’m famous, then!
Lotus Prince, I knew you’d make your way here soon enough! Many congrats! BT has now got one of the best LPers I’ve ever seen. Congrats, dude!
P.S. Eternal Darkness still gives me the creeps. Oh, my, yes. O_O.
Hey. Hey you. Been watching since Alice, the first one that is. Proud of you. ^.^
Congratulations, Lotus Prince! As a huge fan, I’ve been watching ever since your Silent Hill 4 LP (that was the first time I managed to find it), so I remember when this one came out.
I always said that you should be picked up, and now I’m exceedingly glad that it’s happened for real! I’m with other people in hoping that this goes well for you. I know it’ll certainly go well for us!
Good game. Also, don’t take this the wrong way but I don’t like it when people talk over the dialog of the game in a Let’s Play. You got one creepy ass laugh too.
Congrats on making it to the site tho.
Yeah, I make that mistake in some of my earlier LP’s, but I later learn to shut up when other characters are talking. Otherwise, of course, it’s a muddled mess.
Thanks for the comment about the laugh.
I ham it up at the end of Corpse Party, and end up sounding rather foolish.
Congratulations on getting picked up here! This JackofAntics at tgwtg, btw.
Huzzah! ‘Twas about time you got promoted! You’re still the only Let’s Player i care to watch.
Congrats on the plugs man.
And i figured being on the featured blogs list was already a good boost for you.
I look forward to see where you’ll go from here with this.
Cool, though what does this mean for future postings? Are you still going to put them up in the blogs, or start putting them on the main site, or finish Deadspace 2 while posting your backlog here then start posting new vids here?
Also, maybe it’s me, but I think your Fatal Frame LPs were the best.
Oh, and good work on getting on the site.
That’s actually a good question. I’d like to continue the blog posts until I catch up to myself, at which point I’d make it exclusively here, but I’m afraid that I’d look like a dick, posting in the blog section at all. I’ll have to see how that’d work.
Congrats on being picked up, man.
Oh wow, you got signed on! Congradulations on becoming part of Blistered Thumbs ^_^
Welcome aboard brother!
Hooray! Congratulations on getting picked up by Blistered Thumbs–and on being a featured blog on Channel Awesome! I hope it gets you a lot more recognition.
Thanks so much, everyone!
And yeah, honestly, now that I’m in an area which actually has an archive, it’ll be so much less of a pain to find certain LP’s in blip. The more LP’s I do, the further back you have to scroll, and oh god, does that get annoying quickly.
Not that that’s been stopping me from trying to catch up on your work (…friggin’ completionist complex…)
I don’t know what’s more surprising to me: that you were picked up, or that THIS is your first post considering it’s the point I caught up to before taking a break a few weeks ago. Bizarre.
Now that you’re here…will you be posting anything on TGWTG/BT like the Jacob’s Ladder or IHNMAIMS videos?
Oh, hell yes. I’ll be posting my entire backlog, one LP at a time. And I’ll definitely be including Jacob’s Ladder. I’m particularly proud of that video.
Congratulations on getting picked up
Can’t wait to see your let’s plays
Hey I could kiss you. You save me alot of hassle by putting this up I was middle of watching this on blip
Wow, you finally made the big time! Congrats and welcome to the BT Contributor Team!
congratulations dude!
Cool, you’ve made it to Blistered Thumbs, hope this gets you more recognized, Lotus.
Yay!
