MMO Grinder Sidequest is a quick look at Closed Betas or Subscription MMOs with limited trial periods, giving you a quick rundown of the game. With the MOBA genre ever expanding, Hi-Rez studios seeks to put a spin on the genre with a third-person MOBA based around several pantheons of Gods. Does this Closed Beta of the game differ enough from the games that came before it, and will the community not want to make you strangle your modem for once?

I’ll stick with Dota 2…
Zero interest in yet another attempt to cash in on Dota’s success..
I got an invite from a friend of mine, and instantly took to Ymir because I’ve always been a fan of big hulking tank-like characters. First game I joined (within a very short time of beta opening mind you) had two people on the team using Sun Wukong and Ra respectively yelling back and forth at each other over how they were doing their jobs wrong and how the entire game was screwed because of one another. It reminded me so much of LoL that I barely enjoyed the match. Luckily, the second match was far better. Silent, but silence is better than that mess.
I know MOBA games are the hip thing right now but my ire is at paying for different “characters” to use. I’m looking at you League of Legends.
Does paying for each new character or different characters actually become a hindrance? Because each character is different what if you don’t like their style? What if that character is actually one of the worst characters you can choose no matter how you play them. Just doesn’t sit right with me.
Have to make their money somehow.
good thing is you can try any gods in solo training mode without paying for them.
What’s wrong with a taunt about uninstalling your game because you suck?
Duke Nukem 3D had similar taunts, including voiced ones, standard inside it, which you could send with a single push of a button.
Taunting your losing opponent is a tried and true fun part of multi-player gaming. You really shouldn’t be taking these so harshly.
There shouldn’t be a reason as to why that is ok, because it is NOT ok! People shouldn’t rub victory in anybody’s faces because humble people merely say that it was a fun game and LEAVE IT AT THAT! You are a horrible person, please uninstall your life.
I think that if you a) have high stakes for a game or b) a relationship with your competitors, then you should trash talk. I’m not against trash talk, but this is a beta. Not much reason for in-your-face banter.
I don’t agree with the B part here. To me, it depends on the person if he likes to be trash talked to or otherwise.
You remind me of that fighting game captain who said misogyny and sexism was “part of the community”.
No, making fun of someone and trash talking them belittling them is never good.
I think 3dmaster would also be in favor of misogyny, based on previous comments.
I’m sorry, devoutly religious people, but I love the freaking crazy spin move Kali does. If I was not a godless, horrible person, I might be on your side.
I feel bad, after giving him that Beta key, I’ve not seen him for days!
He doesn’t call anymore either… I think he is cheating on me ; ;
next time he comes back home you better have a rolling pin ready for his skull!
somthing i have notised with any closed moba beta is that the guys playing are nicer than when the games releases. i have seen this clearly with dota 2 and smite just getting worse the longer into the beta they get witch tell me alot about the people saying such things are 12-13 year old kids with no money
I’m really liking the game but the community really concerns me. I’ve only played 12 games but 11 of those games ended with 8 players or less. The matches were all decided within the first couple minutes by a ragequiter. I’m really hoping this only happens at lower levels.
I see it happen more often at the lower levels. Once you pass 6 it’s SLIGHTLY less common. The best way to alleviate that is to gather 4 friends on head in doing 5 man teams. That will guarantee you get matched with another 5 man, and it’s very unlikely someone will drop the match from that.
My issue was being a newbie to the genre, and people are SOOOOO competitive. They know these games (I realized yesterday that some of these people are super veteran MOBA players) and if you don’t instinctively know the battle plan, they know. Luckily, I got a bit better, and people didn’t immediately hate my guts. In fact, someone took the lead and told me what I should defend.
