Claire freaks out as she sees a Vita Player.

That’s right, folks. If you’ve been wanting to play some of your favorite PSX games on your Vita, you’re in luck. Next week, Firmware Update 1.8 will hit the handheld and give gamers access to over a hundred titles, including Final Fantasy 7, Metal Gear Solid, and Resident Evil 2 on the Vita.

The update will also add Cross-Controller functionality, which is supposed to allow players to use their Vita as a PlayStation 3 controller. So, Vita owners, are you glad you’ll have access to these games on your handheld? Please share your thoughts in the comments below and keep following Blistered Thumbs.

Hey, good news for Vita owners indeed. Especially since there are no other games on it.

Will you have to buy the games again if you already got them off of PSN? I remember Sony did something similar for the regions where they let people download their PSP games at an additional charge (if I remember correctly).

I think that was for UMDs->digital. If you bought something on the PSN it should be in your purchase history for download. I’m guessing what they’re doing will simply unlock the game to allow you to DL them to your Vita. At least that’s what I hope they’re doing and not making a special seperate ‘Vita version’.

Gotta load up them hyper-expensive Vita cards with awesome PS1 games, thank goodness they’re only a few hundred megabytes each. As for cross controller.. I could not care less. The only way I could see that being even remotely useful is if a.) you for some reason find yourself without your regular PS3 controller one day and need a replacement ASAP or b.)you can’t afford to get a second controller for couch co-op but you CAN afford a PS Vita. It’s neat and all but really how many people will use it?
