Is that a gun or a toaster? Cel-shading is ambiguous.

Capcom’s Lost Planet spin-off is set to release overseas later this year, but it doesn’t seem to have garnered much hype over here. In order to rectify this, I present to you some new cinematics and gameplay:

The game clearly takes cues from the publisher’s juggernaut Monster Hunter series, differentiating itself with its vibrant art style. The main character may have a strange fashion sense, but this title looks pretty interesting, so I hope it eventually gets a Western release. Although, it might need a name change for the American market. Lost Monsters? Planet Hunter? I’ll think of something.

E.X. Troopers comes out on in Japan on November 22nd for PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS. No English release information has been announced.

Yeah… I get the feeling that the comments below me are the reason people don’t WANT coverage of this; they see anime-style or cel-shading and they automatically reject that thing, regardless of the fact that they know shit about the story/gameplay/characters/music of the game.

I also call that the reason I believe 90% of gamers are glorified children, but that’s just me.

*sits and waits for the downvotes*

Not true, Tales Of and Valkyria chronicles are examples of great anime oriented games in their designs and story, and rarely do you see people complain about those. Okami is a wonderful example of a cel-shaded game that is overall considered a classic by many.

Fact being this game doesn’t have any real identity onto itself or anything to particularly deem it special or memorable. Yeah it’s judging a book on its cover, but that’s all anyone has to go on about the game (a new IP especially) unless they do deep research into it or actually understand Japanese.

Do remember though, it’ll likely never even see a western release anyway, so any complaints don’t hold any water anyway.

And commenters like you are why the people who like this kind of style are seen as obnoxious, defensive, screamy weaboos.

It’s an anime styled game? How dare people criticize it like every other game ever made. Giving it a free pass because it’s a certain style is just bad as, if not worse, than condemning for the same thing.

And before your response of “Go back to CoD with the rest of the 12yr olds, hater” cause I had to audacity to disagree with you, I’d like to mention I LIKE this kind of style, but I’m not gonna be giving it 8+/10 automatically just cause.

I’m not giving it a free pass so much as I’m saying “don’t judge it because it’s anime-style”, I say the same thing for MoH: Warfighter because people are already dismissing it as a samey, bland shooter, even though that one has more press behind it, and one of the things advertised about it is the focus on story (something a lot of military shooters are lacking).

It’s not that it’s “anime-style”, it’s that “anime-style” is more or less judged right out of the box by its cover.

It is true though, a lot of people automatically reject anything with an anime style. It’s unfair that you judge a game based on the art style it uses. Just like it would be unfair to judge a game because of it’s genre. I hate it when people judge me as a weaboo otaku because I like anime. It’s the same thing. People judge anything with an anime style.

I think what he means, is that people need to give a game a chance by seeing what the gameplay is like before judging it based on it’s anime style. It would be like judging a game that uses a art style similar to WOW as being a game exactly like WOW.

I like anime, but what I know about this game’s plot and characters just SCREAMS “every shonen series, ever”.

I don’t mean that in a good way.

Warning: consuming excessive amounts of anime over a short period of time may lead to the following symptoms: loss of fashion sense, involuntary posing, loss of voice volume control so you yell everything, a sudden urge to be back in high-school even though high school sucks for everyone, sexual attraction to giant robots, speed lines, air combos, cel shading, explosive nosebleeds and various other symptoms.

As a Monster Hunter fan, I can safely say this has less to do with the Monster Hunter series than DarkSiders 2.

No seriously, at least you can change your armor/physical appearance on that game. That aside, “Monster Hunter” is a way over used term for a game with action combat oriented around boss fighting.

This…thing looks way more like a Lost Planet clone with a complete overuse of the whole anime theme to the point where it looks annoying. It’s like the Tales Of series done completely wrong.

Also what the hell is the main character doing with an I-pod around his neck?!

Yeah I agree, lately every game that has boss battle oriented combat is being called “monster hunter style”, specially if it’s been made by capcom and in a lot of cases, like in this one, it’s just not true. I’ve even heard people call Demon/Dark souls a Monster Hunter clone.

I think he likes to listen to music… Unless you mean why he has around his neck which… Well, I don’t think that’s uncommon…

It’s just out of place given the setting. It’s like rocking a Rolex in a StarTrek episode.
